Official Star Citizen Thread

Gotta say my fav part of the 20GB update is the fact that no matter what line I run the update on it will not run at more than 100kb/s...lol I think that's ridiculous. I love the game and I can't wait for the final launch but I can't get myself to play it at the moment, just so little to do.

Edit: Ok it seems today its running at 300kb/s...still not perfect but a hell of a lot better.

I can't get over 50kb/s. It has been downloading 24 hours a day since the update was released, and it looks like there is still at least 2 days left. There will probably be new updates by the time it's done.

I would go insane...lol
I still don't get why it dl's like this...Don't they have proper servers? or only one for everyone to dl from...

I don't understand it either. As far as I can tell, they have servers and p2p downloads. Disabling p2p doesn't make a difference.

I am only able to connect to them on certain of the ISPs that I use. So it seems obvious that they have some sort of routing issue on their side. That could be why the speeds you are experiencing are so weak. I was able to download all 20GB in one day on an Afrihost account.

The frustration of downloading a SC update is huge, and judging by posts on their official forum, we're not alone in it. Seen posts from people in Aus, Europe and even some places in US/Canada complaining of exactly the same situation as we had here. My download took just over a day, and once it had done all I had time for was to visit my hangar and wander around for 5 minutes before I got a server disconnect. Was too irritated to bother trying any of the suggested fixes, so have shelved it for a while.

(In fairness, I hear that the server connection issues have since been resolved, and folk seem generally happy with the AC 1.0 changes.)

I did come across the video below from LevelCap Gaming which I think is a pretty good "mini-review" of where Star Citizen is at after the Arena Commander 1.0 release. If we accept that Star Citizen proper is still way early in its development and that Arena Commander is fundamentally a test and demo bench for what's to come, I think we can look forward to an incredible end result. The flight and combat mechanics seem to get better with each update, the visual fidelity, sounds, graphic detail, all look better than before.

And damn, but it does look fantastic!

I am getting better speeds from the Star Citizen launcher now. Don't know if this is just perchance, but the speeds seem to have gone up when I changed the download protocol from HTTP + P2P to just HTTP.
I also changed the upload speed from Unlimited to 64kb/s.

The download speeds are still all over the place, but atleast the max download speed I now get is way higher than before (get >300KB/s now where I used to get 100KB/s max)

New Arena Commander 1.0 trailer video added to Post #1. Presumably CIG were waiting for the kinks in the release to get ironed out, and to collect some in-game shots before releasing it. Try run it in HD if you can.

Personally, still haven't had a chance to spend time with the update myself - but from the odd video or two I have caught (and the new trailer), Star Citizen is looking very good, imo.

The most recent SC patch for Arena Commander (AC1.0.1) was used to acknowledge that there is a bug with weapons overheating in the Aurora ships (one of the presently flyable ship types). Here's how CIG told users about the problem, and how they intend addressing it:

been playing this most of the weekend with the free week pass.

love it. wish I had enough money to pledge.

So I played for the free week and noticed quickly that I'm going to need to get a good joystick. Any recommendations?

Does the current beta have any sort of multiplayer or does anyone know at what point it might? I'm wondering what it's going to be like playing this against people with high latency. Could someone also please tell me how big the current download is for beta?

You can play against and with people in the latest build.
Download size is around 26GB inc patches.

Current download is about 25GB, through a ridiculously slow downloader, I might add. There is multiplayer, but I haven't tried it myself, so I can't help you with the rest of the questions.
