Good morning TK. I don't normally hang around here, but I thought I'd share some tragic news:

On Friday evening, my house was struck by lightning. The strike was direct and went through the center of the house. Naturally, my PC was struck and sadly, she died. She died badly. Here's the list of losses from the strike:

My entire PC  including graphics card, sound card, RAM etc
A NAS device
Scanner/printer
Modem
XBOX360 controller attached to the PC
Logitech speaker set
1TB, 2.5" external hard drive
The TV's speakers (for some reason the visuals work just fine)
A plug in the study that seems to buzz now when something is plugged into it

Here's a list of things that appear to be working but may be damaged:
Headphones (Sennheiser HD558)
A PS3
My Amp
Speakers attached to amp
LP player
Gaming keyboard
Gaming mouse

Has anyone else here ever been struck? What were the damages? Did insurance cover it? Did the damaged devices fail at a later stage?

I'd appreciate your feedback.

I was dragged kicking and screaming to the wedding expo as well. We went on Saturday. My sister is getting married in September so there are a few things still to be organised and stuff.

That sucks man. My house has been struck before, luckily most of the expensive stuff was plugged out at the time. I did lose a TV, and that was covered by insurance.

Shit man, sorry to hear that.

Are you insured?

Ja, I think so. I phoned Outsurance and they seemed willing to help. I'm pretty sure that I included lightning damage in my policy. What concerns me though is how they would go about replacing the PC parts - you can't replace the PC at Incredible Connection.

This is what sucks. Normally, I am extremely paranoid about unplugging all the electronics, but we haven't had a bad thunderstorm in Centurion for months now so I got a bit lazy with that. and then BOOM, that's when lightning decides to destroy my stuff. The lightning strike was so bad, that the tiles around my chimney are chipped from the shock-wave or the arcing bolts.

Waiting for someone to go get milk, or maybe waiting to be milked? :p

Anyway...

I order a stereo pair of speaker for my mom yesterday, because she claimed that the TV I gave her has "crap" sound reproduction as to the ones she had on her old flat panel. This is more of a guilty purchase.

Anyway, I ordered them yesterday and am to expect delivery by later this afternoon.

StaggerLee, I'm sorry to hear of your predicament. I've personally never had anything struck by lightning or lost valuable goods as a result. I do hope things work in your favour.

Shit man. I used to have a very PTSD-y feeling toward lightning. I was unplugging stuff in a garage once when lightning hit a tree that was touching the garage door. That was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I get extremely paranoid about that stuff, but I am much better now. Although, I did wake up at like 4am this morning to unplug all my stuff when a storm rolled over PTA.

Lol, yup. It hit us at about 2:30 this morning. I was up in a second to unplug all the remaining electronics, then I ran back to bed and hid under the covers.

That sucks man, hope you get sorted with the insurance. I've lost 2 modems in about 5 months, both times I didn't have time to unplug my modem before the lightning arrived.

I've also wondered about this before. How do they know what components I had in my PC that need replacing now? Would be interesting to find out so keep us updated :)

I will do so. I am with Outsurance and I am happy with their policies so far, I'll let you all know if it stays that way :P

So is there anyone here that owns lego figures that will be looking to part with them?

i am specifically looking for Ironman, Batman, Hulk, Black Widow, Captain America, Wonderwoman and the chicky from the Lego movie.
im willing to pay max R200 per figure. so please let me know if anyone is willing to part with these characters

Morning good people. Seems like summer is slowly drawing to a close!
Sorry to hear that Staggerlee.
Do you have house insurance?

Morning all.

I watched a few after a friend mentioned them, but I stopped soon after. They just spoil any movie for you which defeats the purpose of watching a movie in the first place. It might be a movie you actually liked and thus you didn't see the mistakes in it. Then you watch cinemasins and they just break it for you.

I'd rather spot the mistakes/faults on my own and decide if the movie is shit or not, otherwise after watching enough cinemasins I'll probably never watch a movie and enjoy it again.

Also, Morning all :)

Strangely enough after watching cinemasins I enjoy movies more lol.
Finding the faults makes the movie actually more enjoying.
StaggerLee Joh that sucks hope it all turns out well with the insurance.

Which insurance and that is quiet tragic and check the insurance policy.

I don't unplug everything and even with direct hits we have been fine and we have a lightning rod.
