Bad luck for xbox gamers in North America. But good to see the game is done.

Risen - Gone Gold! [Updated]
by Dhruin, 00:01

Deep Silver sent us this PR, announcing Risen is Gold and will ship for the PC worldwide on October 2nd as planned, although the X360 version has been delayed to "early next year" and is only mentioned for NA:

Risen PC Goes Gold!

RPG from Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver reaches gold master status

Hermosa Beach, Calif. - September 18, 2009 - Deep Silver Inc., a publisher of interactive entertainment software and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Media, and the developer Piranha Bytes just announced that the RPG Risen has reached gold status for Windows PC and will be released worldwide on October 2, 2009. The game is expected to be released on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in North America early next year.
About Risen:

This epic role playing game is set in a medieval world on a volcanic Mediterranean island, The "Risen" story unfolds over four chapters and will offer multiple ways to develop the story by his own actions and decisions. An innovative and intuitive user control interface will support both casual and hardcore gamers. With full world streaming support, the player will have a seamless experience while playing in a fully simulated game world with authentic characters.

More information about Risen may be found at http://risen.deepsilver.com

Thanks also to leth and Evan for similar submissions.

Update: Despite the official PR above only mentioning the X360 version for NA next year, the Risen blog does specify the X360 version is Gold, presumably for Europe:

Risen has reached Gold status for PC as well as the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, and is now in production. This means that the path is clear for a world-wide release on October 2, 2009.

Ahhh okay, Tks Stefan. I always thought that is was based on the same system as music album sales i.e. x amount of sales = silver / gold / platinum

I hope its not a hack in slash. I dont like those sort of rpgs, not enough depth for me.

It's not. From what I have read and seen it should play like a sand box rpg. Similar games would be the gothic series(which risen developers made) and the elder scroll series.

I also don't like hack and slash games.

Thats good hey I like sandbox rpgs if they good. I played a reaally bad one 2 years ago called two worlds I think.

Personally I liked the gothic games as sand box games but didn't like two world or oblivion. I genereally prefer the bioware/obsidian approach of more linear worlds with a better developed story and characters. But I do think risen will be a decent game, it won't be as good as Dragon Age Origins with which its competing directly for the end of year rpg slot.

I agree with you there hey, I also prefer linear rpgs. bioware are the gods at this.

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is this 'Gold' status?

Its when the game is done and gets send to the manufacturers to make the discs and put in the packaging.

I also thought it had something to do with sales. Thought the game had 'gold sales' from pre-orders already.

This game is made by the same developer as the Gothic series, but if it's at all like Gothic 3 then I'm going to be disappointed. If however they go back to some of the Gothic 2 formula then I'd be happy. Be warned that these developers usually release their games in very buggy states.

Be aware Gothic 1 wasn't bugged. It only started after they switched to Jowood as a publisher. Be aware that the gothic 3 expansion made by trine and not piranha bytes after they and jowood had a falling out had even more bugs than the gothic 3 original.

Also be aware Jowood has a terrible reputation as far as bugs go. Both the guild and spellfore series suffered with multiple bugs.
