Bitco for gaming

Ye sorry I do get ur point. Was just making a general statement.

No worries, I misunderstood your sentence, my bad:)

So is anyone using Bitco at the moment? Has the packet loss issues been addressed?

I'm seriously considering going with Bitco... should I have line of sight which I kind of doubt.

I foresee much frustration in ur near future.

Wireless gaming is dangling the carrot in front of u. U can almost game online, but then cant.

I'm currently using LTE which has been working fine even for online gaming but I don't get much data so I can't watch things like Twitch streams which is a bit annoying. I wish there was fibre at my place.

Problem is it will be short lived. As demand increases u will see a major degradation and generally mobile providers are very slack to upgrade the links. At least with Telkom, they are generally a lot better in this regard.

I've totally given up online gaming on my bitco link, to much of a frustration, only game I can play where packet loss doesn't cause an issue is Hearthstone...LOL, but I do download a shit ton, internet is always speedy, downtime is a minimum, and their support is good (unless you mention the word packet loss in your support ticket, then you'll probably get ignored haha)

Solitude, not to close, probably about 4-5km, but having discussed this issue with Bitco on the past, it sounds like there's a lot of radio interference (their words) on this specific tower, so pretty much everyone connecting to this same highsite is going to experience some packet loss.

Bodhi, do you regret going with Bitco? If so what were your alternatives? Unfortunately ADSL is not an option for me.

Solitude there were no alternatives and considering I have some important IRL stuff keeping me busy for the next year or so, not being able to play to many games online might be a good thing haha, so no I don't regret it, because right now its doing its job for what I use it for (Steam/Series downloads and general web surfing) but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to someone who's sole purpose is going to be playing online games, especially FPS games, with MOBA's the packet loss might still go unnoticed, but if shooters are your thing, you're going to get very irritated.

Thanks Bodhi. I will sleep a bit on it. I don't play games online too often but I do like to have the option. One game I do play online is Diablo III which should be fine as long as there are no disconnections.

Thank you very much for your insight.

I put in a couple of 100 of hours in D3 as well since I got Bitco about a year a ago, I can recall about 2-3 DC's which might have server side for all I know, the worse I could notice is a little rubber banding here and there on bad nights, so unless you're into HC, it'll not really affect your gameplay

Thanks Bodhi. I asked for a quote. So lets see if I have LOS and hopefully everything will go well.

Ye it wont hurt just trying it out. I enjoy online gaming to much and this would frustrate the hell out of me.

When I moved to an area that didn't have enough capacity, I got in touch with my local exchange and after a few months of persistent pestering, they finally installed my hardware.

Ha I will never ever ever go back with Telkom. I once was without ADSL for two months where I couldn't get a techie out. They kept marking the issue as resolved and it never was. After a year of endless problems I cancelled ADSL and you know what Telkom did? They accused me of not paying one month. So I had to find the proof and show them that it was paid. I accused them of being criminals because they are.

I was so angry I almost lost my cool in a Telkom store. I was ready to beat people up. It was one of the angriest and most frustrating periods of my life.

I would rather swim through needles than make use of Telkom again. :)

I truly don't understand why ppl would directly deal with Telkom... FIND A TECHIE ON THE ROAD!

By far the best thing I ever did! Get the guys number and anytime u have issues u phone him direct. Until such time that FTTH is readily available Telkom is the best alternative, so its just about getting what u want in more creative ways.

Rather swim through needles. Telkom is pure evil from the deepest pits of hell. Here to suck the life out of us, to absorb our souls and break our spirits. People who work for Telkom are demons there to prey on us.

Never again.

Never.

Hey dude,

Do you mind if I ask which area you're in? I moved into a new development in Oakdene and it's been an endless hassle to get Telkom to install a line. It's also on a high-lying area, but it seems like BitCo is one of the few options available to me for now...

Bodhi I'm with Mike here. I'd also like to know what area you are in. It would suck if we are in the same area and experience the same problems,
