Need a couple of decent but cheap laptops

my 2 kids are currently using some old hand-me down laptops that are really starting to chug along. one is a celeron and the other a dual core with a gig or 2 of ram. the boys are starting to get too old for flash based web games and want to start playing stuff that needs more processing power. i was lucky i could get Kerbal Space Program to run on the dual core, but there was no hope of getting it going on the Celeron :-(

anyways, long story short, i need to try and find 2 CHEAP laptops, but ones which can still play oldish games decently. I'm thinking i3 with 4GB RAM should be fine ?
 
Cheap and gaming and laptop just don't mix well. You also need to look into what GPU they have. Cheap as in under the 10k mark or under the 5k mark?

definitely not looking for "gaming" laptops as per the forum's general benchmarks. but what i mean is, i need something that can still run Counterstrike or Kerbal or other such games. won't be needing it for Crysis at 4K though :)

given that i need to buy 2, i'm looking at a cost of around 3k each. am i hoping for too much ?
