Electronic Arts and developer Ghost Games are going to give a first look of the next Need for Speed game May 21.

The official Facebook page for Need for Speed asks people to subscribe to the franchise's YouTube page to see the return of the popular racing game series. Ghost Games is promising a "dramatically different" Need for Speed and reportedly engaging in “more open conversations" with fans.

Last year, EA decided not to release a new game in the Need for Speed series. The company previously released an annual installment in the franchise every year between 1996 and 2013 — except for 2001.

Currently untitled, Need for Speed 2015 is set to launch sometime between October 1 and December 31, according to EA's release calendar.

What are they going to do that's dramatically different??? I mean, they've done the whole running in the racing underground with Underground 1 & 2, Most Wanted, Carbon, and Undercover. They've done the cop vs racer pursuit angle with Hot Pursuit (all of them), Most Wanted (Original & 2012), and Rivals. They've done ProStreet. They've tried more professional racing (somewhat sim) with Shift 1 & 2. Cross-country with The Run. They've brand themed with Porsche... I could really go on, but the point is what are they going to do that'll qualify as dramatically different for a NFS game?! That line of dialogue just doesn't for a franchise like NFS.

Granted, I could be proven wrong, but that sounds like fluff to get people somewhat excited.

Umm, if it's "dramatically different" is it still a Need For Speed game?

That's the thing though, they've done so many different things (including a rally game, if you'd believe it). If they managed it, yes, it would still be NFS, but what are they going to do?

*cough* rebranded vrally game "whistling: & you forgot the MMO nfs world

What about a hovercraft (ala Wipeout), monster truck, motorcycle or watercraft game?
Actually a good point.

Like I said, I could be proven wrong, but I'll believe when I see it. And at that point, it becomes a question of how much traction this dramatically different game will get.

maybe you will be able to get out of your car and run on a linear path and have a lot of qte's....................

oh wait .........that was done in the run already :p

I can only dream we get a proper Underground game again.

PLEASE, PLEASE let it be another NFS underground. Underground 2 was the best in the NFS series in my opinion, so if they can make another one like that, I will be happy.

+1

People have been asking for underground 3 for years! Maybe this year, they will give what the fans want.

Either way, the point stands :p.

Dramatically different is patently a lie

Exactly my point indeed. Dramatically different in the NFS franchise would take place in an alternate future universe, with a bunch of electric concept cars, and have us driving upside down on floating roadways.

"Dramatically different" is pointless marketing gobshite speak for "we desperately want you to love us again because we miss your lovely money and really want you to buy our new game."

That said, if we get an Underground 3, I'll probably fall for it. Cos I'm a sucker for fast cars.

what i meant was a most wanted like he first one the last one was crap specially if you had to race against that darn Hennessy

Wow, there's been a lot of racing games that's either released or are being released this year. It's a great time to be a racing game enthusiast, but I'm a bit skeptical to these NFS claims. Underground 1 and 2 was probably one of my all time favourite racing games, and although I'd love to see them return to that format, I wonder what new they can bring to the table. Also, would we want something different as well? We are getting premier racing from games like Project Cars, and Forza 6 will be released later on this year, and there is a new ralley game that's shaping up to be magnificent, so the realistic racing genre is covered. Maybe there is a small lack of arcade style games, but that other Indie title I read about here seems to be covering that aspect as well. So where will NFS 2015 fit in? If I'm going to invest myself into a racing game, I'd much rather go with something like Forza or Project Cars, and I just don't know if NFS will have a place in my gaming life...

EA have tried their hands and various types of racers...:

V-Rally
Semi-simulation
Illegal underground street racing
Cop chases
Illegal underground street racing and cop chases and,
QTE street racing...

I'm really not sure what other cats they'll be able to pull out of this metaphorical hat of theirs. It it really have to be unique otherwise it'll just be another installment in the franchise.

Bring back underground... unless that concept is too old now.
