Weekend plans

Don't know if anyone here is into Mountain Biking but I did the Darling Brew 62km Bone Crusher this weekend and let's just say that it's not called that for nothing.

My legs are still wrecked. xD

Had some amazing craft beer in Darling though! Darling Slow Beer- if anyone goes there, be sure to try it out. It's damn delicious.

Grats dude! Did you at least have fun, besides the beer? :P

My parents live across the Darling Brew shop in Darling. Try the Native Ale - best beer you'll ever have.

Good on ya! I'm trying to get in shape so I can do a MTB race next year, but I think I'll start off with something a little less hectic.

Thanks, will definitely check that out next time I'm in that area. Always keen to try out a new craft beer :)

The best way to do it is to just do it! Haha. You'll be surprised how quickly you can be race ready. If you routinely even just cycle 20km on mountain trails three times a week, you'll be able to do a race in no time.

Well, I started training January last year, but March, I royally screwed up my knee. I put on all the weight I lost plus some. Only started training again a little over a month ago, only kicking it into high gear 2 or 3 weeks ago...

So far, I'm only getting in about 1km on flat land at most :| Daylight being so short is my biggest problem for getting out right now. Gotta start posting around to find a good night riding light.

What area are you in?

What area are you in?

Nelspruit (more or less). Its not that there isn't good places to ride, I'm just not there yet... I have a couple very mild uphills I need to be comfortable on before I push myself. Don't want to pop my knee out again.

Ah ok, the reason I asked is because there's a shop here close by the farms where we do night rides that sell really good lights for half the price you usually get them in the shops.

What happened to your knee by the way?

Ah, ok. Thanks anyways. What area is that in?

The knee? Oh sheesh, not something I want to get into great detail about on a public forum, but the long and short of it is I stood up, everything under the knee went to the left, everything above the knee went right. There was a lot of bone scraping and tendon tearing/ripping sounds, followed by some hectic yelps of pain. I was on a crutch for a good 6+ weeks.

Damn dude, that sounds kak painful! I hope your knee gets better soon so you can enjoy some proper riding.

I work in Bellville so I go do the night rides in Durbanville at the Meerendal and Bloemendal Farms so I can get some riding time in during the weekdays. It's storming in the Cape at the moment though, so we're yet to see whether (<-- lol) it's going to be possible to ride this week :(.

Perhaps go check it out anyway, they might be able to ship it. That's now if you can't find a better deal locally:

Thanks. It was about a year and a month ago I was off the crutch, but I've only got back into getting into shape the past month or two... I still feel my knee want to pop out again on stairs while on foot, or going uphill on my bike, but I've invested in a proper knee brace and it makes a world of difference. Thanks for the encouragement, and the link. Will compare prices and hopefully get the funds to buy one soon.

You are welcome dude. Best of luck to you! And good luck with finding a nice light :)

My weekend plans this weekend is to go to the Royal Show to watch all the events and walk around then probably take my puppy out somewhere for a nice long walk like I did today in Howick/Hilton.

I'm going to watch Mad Max with my wife, have a peaceful braai with my wife, veg on the couch watching Netflix with my wife and then game in peace and quiet whilst my wife retires to bed early.

This will probably be the best weekend this year. I can't wait.
