Aion - General Discussion

Thing is all you need is a little internet hiccup and you are back to a 1+hr wait. There are obviously not enough servers, or NCSOFT's planning is waaaay off the mark somewhere.

It makes no sense that a person cannot even pick 1 server where there isn't a queue, and like I previously mentioned, the queues are now so full that you can't even get into the queue itself!

Oh well, I remember similar issues when I played WoW at US release. Just hope NCSOFT do what Blizz did back then and give us some free time.

well yesterday i waited 40 mins and lost connection, had to rewait it again :( at least im now in...

To be honest, I really don't mind the queues, as it means that Age of Conan 2 won't happen should Aion's subscriber-base dwindle. Mass server merges are not fun, but it's the wait until they happen that sucks the most. The fewer servers, the better.

Once the "OMG I MUST PLAY IT NOW!"-ness wears off, logging in shouldn't be a problem :)

Regardless, I usually just fire up the game, join the queue and then go do whatever it is that I need to do beforehand. This morning I took a nice long bath and by the time I was clean with breakfast and coffee in hand I was in :D

but one must "OMG I MUST PLAY IT NOW!" :D

Hehehe.

Anyone know how to re-view the cinematic that plays when you start the game for the first time?

Ouch :(

I've only had to wait in a queue once - which was for about an hour though.

My Assassin is now lvl 11 and still very soft. So I rerolled a sorcerer which is now almost lvl 14 after a full day's play - and i must say it's absolutely vicious!

Hope you guys are enjoying the game so far ... After you leave the fortress and head into the woods the game becomes extremely fun...and even more difficult. I wouldn't recommend you play solo after lvl 11 or so...

i've summarized me feelings about aion in two words:

F****** Awesome

Well ... it's nice to see you guys were having your fun :p

The queueing over the weekend was a little tiresome, but I was expecting it to be honest. If you logged on in the morning you escaped the worst of it ... I had a 30 minute wait time when I tried at 10:30am ... which gave me time to answer mails, but not hop on here.

I've got three chars on Gorgos - sadly - adding one char as a friend does not mean all chars are added (not like Guildwars), and, all your chars don't enter into the legion when one does.

Worst of all, in my book, is the fact that a person has to be online for you to be able to add them as a friend.

So at the moment I have a lev 14 sorceress - and I can still get away with soloing, but I have to be extra careful - I've died a couple of times because of some surprise spawn right next to me. Once Stone Skin is gone, the casters can't take a lot of hits. But the damage output is awesome.

My level 11 assassin is also doing quite well - I don't find her soft at all tbh. As long as I don't aim to kill things too far above my level - but one level over doesn't provide me with too much trouble.

Priest is at level 5 - I'm not really playing with her yet - but they get pretty powerful past level 20 from what I've seen.

I'll post my character names in the name thread :)

Oh - Lydon, with regards to the size of the UI and text, there's an option in your options menu - I imagine I saw something there.

Shadowfox that's quite a coincidence...

My assassin is also lvl 11 - but then yesterday morning I rerolled a sorcerer who is now 1 block away from lvl14.

One gripe I have is that there are often not enough quests in an area to carry you over to new quests when you lack the XP to level up.

I'm loving the sorcerer though - at lvl 11 I dueled a friend of mine's lvl 16 assassin, asking him not to shadowstep on the 1st move - and I had him down to 40% before losing any health. Had I remembered to use B for my shards I would've had him.

Questing ... almost definitely. Grinding helps a bit ... I always kill a few things extra along the way ... but by level 14 some of your quests are giving you along the lines of 30 - 40k XP.

Mind you ... if you nab something a level above you that's worth 2k XP - but by level 15+ you'll be wanting to group up, and the XP gets shared.

The Assassin shadowstep move is awesome though, apart from doing about 70-odd damage, about half the time I end up behind my target and I can use the surprise attack skill on top of it, adding another 100 - 130. If I get a critical, I'm looking at about 350.

So in a perfect world my first two strikes can get an enemy on the same level down almost half his HP.

I'll agree with your point about the number of quests - but I've got this feeling NCSoft is trying to encourage people to group up. As I've been progressing the number of solo's I see seem to be decreasing a bit, and despite the immense damage a sorcerer can do, the majority of their spells are slow casting, so their not the best solo class out there.

Hmm going to roll a Templar, hope their decent enough solo.

I'm looking at some sites where I can download the patches from manually. There's a list, which one should I be getting?

Aion Patch 1.5.0.1 to 1.5.0.6 127MB
Aion Patch 1.5.0.1 to 1.5.0.5 622MB
Aion Patch 1.5.0.4 to 1.5.0.5 618MB

Yeah I agree. For random 'kill X amount of Y mobs' the sorcerer was OWNING, I'd get hit once every 6 mobs or so when my spells are on cooldown. But later on you suffer a bit more. Those lake spirits kill me everytime because I get silenced :(

Weird, my lvl 12 Sorcerer is doing 357 on every single fireball cast, so I'm eating through mobs.

It would be nice if there were optional questing areas as opposed to everyone grinding in the same area before moving on.

One thing that is going to become a problem is mob-ninja'ing. If someone is hitting a mob, and you hit the mob as well - you get xp from the kill - and more importantly, if you hit harder, you can actually pull the mob off him and get the kill and drop! Something I _LOVE_ doing with my sorcerer's kief damage when other idiots try and ninja the mob spawn that I've been waiting for :D

I was so looking forward to Aion, but I kind of feel cheated. A WoW wanna-be game with very little to offer otherwise, and in some cases less than WoW.

The first thing that bugged me the post installation update which, by default, is a trickle download. Of course you can force it download at full speed by clicking the "Play Now" button, but that I only figured out after waiting for 2 hours for 9mb.

After the update was done the real frustration began. The dammed game loaded up in Korean, an no matter which way you changed the settings in the launcher it still stayed Korean. Turns out that you have to make sure that everything on the PC (region, time, language) wise should be set to UK before you start the installation. It took another 24mb language pack download download to sort that out and a uninstall and reinstall of the launcher.

Then the big disappointment. I was in a queue and had to wait for my first time to play, and when I started it was nothing more than WoW on steriods.

To be fair, I am only lvl 6 now, and there is a still a lot of content to be seen (I hope), I can only hope that the high level gaming is not as "forced" into a direction as the low level quests and terrain.

Well, I'll check things out till next month, maybe it will grow on me by then, but yeah, it is light years from what I expected and hoped for.
