Kickstarter - The Bard's Tale IV

Woaw! This is amazing! Bards tale 4 ftw! almost as good as a confirmation of half life 3! Kinda surprised InXile went to kickstarter for this. I never followed the company and assumed they were financially independent, enough anyways

So they reached $1mil!

Yep, looking very good :) I wonder if they will add stretch goals or if they will play it safe and just say that they'll use every cent to improve the game.

They are financially independent, but they've had massive success with both of their recent kickstarters and it was only logical for them to go this route again. They have already said that if The Bard's Tale IV is funded that they will match every dollar with one of their own dollars.

That's amazing news! Jeez, hopefully this edition will be as brilliant or even better as each previous bard's tale. Holding thumbs for 40 hours worth of single player:p

I be a backer of the Bard too. Interestingly enough though, not through the post here but after reading a note put out by Chris Roberts (the guy who's making Star Citizen) giving it his support too. Now that I see the number of MyGamers adding their voices in support I feel even better about it.

I did miss the 48-hour free game offer though cos I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes.
Age. It's a thing.

For those curious as to why this Bard is IV: The 3 original games were released way back in the mid-1980s on DOS, Commodore64 and Amiga. They were 8-bit before 8-bit became retro hipster trendy. They were created by Interplay who were an EA developer.

The character names and a lot of the dialogue lines were actual LOL-worthy.

The guy who designed the maps for I and II and directed III, Brian Fargo, later setup InXile. They released a game called The Bard's Tale (no number) in 2004/05 which was a damn funny poke at RPG gaming in general. A legal loophole allowed them to use the same name as the original game (which, technically was named Tales of the Unknown: Volume I - The Bard's Tale) but they weren't allowed to reference anything in or use any characters or locations, etc. from the original trilogy.

According to a note on Wikiknowseverthingapedia "The Bard's Tale IV will directly continue the storyline of the original trilogy, setting aside the 2004 game."

You can pick up the newer version of The Bard's Tale together with all 3 of the original classics for under $10 on Steam. May help while away the time until 2017... :)

Games those days hey... I can remember happily running around on purchased dungeons and then entering the world screen and lagging to death. Funny thing is on my gtx 970, is still lags equally bad!

i would have been interested in this, but my backlog is just shocking at the moment :-(

Release date is aimed for Oct 2017, which of course will slip by a few months, so you've got some time to catch up on the backlog.

$1.1m backed. They have now added some extra add-ons as well and I just added $15 to my pledge for all of the novellas.

Awesome, thanks for the update on the addons.

I just watched the Brian Fargo Kickstarter video. It felt like I was watching something from another universe. Perhaps Uwe should watch it and realize how you present your game and what your past does for you when asking for money to build a game.

LOL! Watched Bolls' rage quitting Kickstarter video - best 1:30s accented German comedy routine I've see in a long while.
"It looks like no-one gives a shit about Rampage 3. Maybe I shouldn't do it then. Pfft, I have enough money to play golf until I'm dead."
:D

I see $20+ backers will be getting emulator versions of the original 3 games as a bonus "thank you" at the end of the Kickstarter campaign. EA (wonder of wonders) have released the rights to them, and they have one of the original Bards Tale 3 programmers working on updating them for modern machines. When that's done they'll give the updated versions to backers as well.

And it's successfully funded! :)

Which video is that?

Thats awesome! Hope the amount will be pushed higher to get some of those stretch goals.

I was talking about the video you posted in this link. Just watched Uwe Boll go mental in his two vids calling everyone from the lowly pc gamer to Clooney, many kinds of idiots, to put it mildly.
