Today, during Microsoft's E3 press conference, Xbox Head Phil Spencer confirmed Xbox One will support backward compatibility.

With over 100 titles available by this holiday, and more coming in the future, retail disks will also work with the Xbox One. During the announcement, Mass Effect was shown running on the Xbox One.

Digital downloads will start showing up automatically in your game library. Still need to download the game when using your Xbox 360 disks.

Developers and publishers just need to approve what titles work with backwards compatibility.

Xbox One backward compatibility is available now for preview members and everyone this holiday.

This is a massive coup for Microsoft. There's a lot of games I never ended up finishing (or even starting) on the 360 before moving onto the Xbox One, so I can play those now on my Xbox One. Also, all those Games with Gold for the 360 I've been queuing up will come in use.

Makes moving from the 360 to One a no brainer now.

Lol, but MS did blink first, so to say. No backwards compatibility for PS4, or am I wrong with that info?

We wouldnt know, they are only doing their show around 03:00 our time.. which seems to be last on the list. Maybe leaving the best for last?

Even if Sony announces backwards compatibility, i would not make use of it. Same goes for media streaming etc

regardless of the catch or not. Sony cornered themselves with the ps3's Cell architecture. apparently it's fuck hard to emulate or something hence why it went so many years before the ps3 got hacked.
