Just when you think Microsoft could do no worse in Japan, the console proves that, yes, it can do even worse. Much worse.

After a dismal Japan launch and then horrible sales, the latest weekly Xbox One sales for Japan are, simply put, awful. During the week of June 8 to June 14, Microsoft sold a hundred Xbox One consoles in Japan. That’s right, one hundred.

This data is from Media Create, which tracks game software and hardware sales in Japan.

Yes, yes, I know that any of the home consoles aren’t exactly tearing up the sales charts, but compare the Xbox One numbers to the other consoles. Then, think about selling a hundred Xbox Ones in a week in a country of over 120 million people? Ouch.

You know, now might be a good time to seriously reconsider even selling the console in Japan.

Yes, and Japan console sales are also reaching a new low.

Thing is, Microsoft will never win against Sony on their own turf, especially while the Xbox One is not exactly ground breakingly different than the PS4. If you give the japanese option between 2 products which are almost identical, they will always pick the local/japanese version .

agree if you look, even the wii u which selling like crap everywhere is actually selling in japan

M$ needs to release idolm@ster, KanColle, Pantsu Witches, Project Diva and other such games on XBO to have a hope of capturing otaku gamers. Japan gamers mostly go for moe stuff. Not enough moe, means not enough sales.

Only thing which works for otaku gamers is moe, no moe exclusives, no games and therefore no console sales.

Dude, I never have any friggen idea what you're on about when you speak about these things. English man, ENGLISH!

ReviewTechUSA made a video about this yesterday. Stunning how few consoles have been sold.

I wonder why the Americans prefer Sony's console then.I dont think it is that simple.

It is as simple as : Playstation 2. Sony was there long before Microsoft, so they've always had a huge following worldwide. The fact that Microsoft has managed to erode Sony's market as much as it did is more an indication of how much Sony has been losing ground, considering Sony owned the entire market during the PS2 days, says alot.

Also, something that people don't notice on those charts it seems, Japan/Asia is mobile-obsessed . They have stopped buying consoles in general and rather buy 3DS/Vitas/Mobile phones. This is also why Nintendo is still doing relatively well as their games tend to be the type you'll play on a mobile devices .

Mobile gaming in Japan is more casual. The hardcore fans, according to sites I read which quote 2ch users are that traditional gamers still play console. Mobile gaming is more about social games and card games. There are now card based JRPGs. I still think this is about the choice of exclusives. And for Japan, for the console gamer, to get most of these people you need to get moe based games. If you look at what's popular in Japan among those people who play more it's the cute girl stuff. MS needs exclusives in that arena then people will buy their console, as much as they buy Sony/Nintendo. And something similar goes for the rest of East Asia. If you look at what titles are released in Hong Kong you'll see that many of the niche Japanese titles - all basically moe games - are also released in East Asia. Couple that with the popularity of JPOP, movies, anime and manga, (and even general fashions) in East Asia and how that's being copied all over from Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia to even China and South Korea, it's all about BISHOUJO MOE stuff. Cute girls. If you want to sell to East Asian customers, you must load your games with big eyed girls of a variety of ages. Western gaming is different. It's more about the plot and less about the visuals and either it's a different psychology of Westerners or maybe Western males are too embarrassed to play some of these games. Who knows. In the West it's the girls who will play Hatsune Miku Project Diva or idolm@ster.

Well yeah Xbox 360 deserved its success it was a great console and ps3 was a overpriced death bomb to sony that only started doing great things 3 years into its lifespan but ps4 is off to a great start you cant deny that.
