Franchises that Shouldnt Have Died

Red Faction.
Dead Space.
Darksiders (technically not dead, but I don't think ot will he the same without Joe Mad, if they actually make another one)

Fine, I'll say it...

Ultima & Wing Commander

Seriously, I would love a Wing Commander franchise reboot. Yes EA owns the rights, but they have the engine (Frostbite) and the studio (DICE) to pull off a seriously wicked reboot of this.

Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I would really like a new MechWarrior and/or MechCommander game.
I know MechWarrior Online exists and I have played it, but the latency makes hitting other makes with lasers and PPC impossible. I just want a nice single player experience.

Also something I loved which I haven't found a great alternative/successor for is Pharaoh

A new Star Wars KOTOR would also not go amiss :)

MDK...yeah, for sure! That would be great to play!

YEAH!!

Damnit, stop this, you guys are just bringing back old memories and making me sad... :(

A classic which will very happily make a return, is Descent: Underground.

*smirks at Uwe Boll*....yep, KickStarter a big waste of time....

Mech Warrior. Giant stompy robots go BOOM! What is not to love? 've started reading the Dark Age novels and it is such a great universe.

I never played the 1st one, but see there is a HD remake of it that came out last year. How did the 1st one compare to the 2nd? Thinking of getting the Remake.

The problem with the GK franchise is ,they fooled around with tech every single iteration. The first one was a standard 2D point & click adventure game, the 2nd one was full blown live motion video (as in everything was like a movie, real actors and real video dialogs) and then the 3rd one was suddenly a full 3D first person adventure game with something like an Unreal Engine.

So i think remastering GK2 will be nearly impossible unless they reshoot the entire thing, they might be able to remaster the movies like what they did with the old Star Wars movies, but it will still be a major problem for mobile devices etc. I guess it also implies GK2 graphics aren't bad, it is all 90s quality movie clips...

Anyhow, short answer, you can't really compare them. The main characters are the same, but the theme and story is totally different. GK1 = New Orleans / Voodoo . GK2 = Germany / Werewolves . GK3 = France / Templars+Vampires

Oh and to be back on topic, i loved the books and loved the game that came out:

Dune

For some reason i guess Westwood decided to focus on Command&Conquer instead of Dune (and then Westwood died and everything went with them). I know EA had an attempt at it in the early 2000s, but that pretty much killed the franchise right there.

I would still love to see more of that world, doesn't have to be a RTS , maybe a 4X game instead (i.e. multiple planets , a bit of space fighting, and planet building who knows). It is just such a rich lore that no one seems to have taken further . Hell even a standard FPS in that world would be cool.

Ye was really sad when westwood died/assimilated into EA. I bought their decade of gaming box set before they went under. I seriously need to work through the red alert series again.
