Clicker Games

Mr. Nice Guy
So what's the deal with all these clicker games these days? I see a lot of my friends on Steam play them.

Games like Adventure Capitalist, Clicker heroes, Tap heroes, Cookie Clicker and so forth.

To me it looks like all you do is click. The whole time. Basically in the same location. I don't get it. What's the appeal?

This goes out especially to some people who have over 20 hours in Adventure Capitalist. Or some people who have over a 100 hours spent!

The draw for me is that I can "play" the game without having to engage my brain at all, which is something I want more and more often after a day at work. So I can just mindlessly click, or have it run in the background while I do something else like watch series and then every now and then I will purchase a few upgrades and ignore it again.

I started with Cookie Clicker but left it once I "beat" it, then I did Wall Destroyer which lasted me a lot longer than Cookie Clicker, but which I also inevitably beat.
Now I am busy with Adventure Capitalist and Time Clickers.

For research, Wall Destroyer can be found here: http://orteil.dashnet.org/experiments/idlegamemaker/?game=hczBgm6k

Don't do it soli! Don't join the dark side. I wish I could ignore those kinds of games but once I open it I have to beat the game aka all achievements.

Believe me when I say I don't even love them I just can't resist. It is my addictive personality....

Well adventure capitalist is kinda cool...also the fact it plays even when game isnt open is a bonus :p

Achievements are nice, so once I hit 100% im done :)

lol i call those TrapGames , get addicted to simple games like that i rather go around clicking ads on websites :wtf:

haha.. i play clicker heroes now and then but havent opened it in a while, luckily it runs even when when its closed :p

I find it kinda odd that people get addicted to them.

Played both the cookie making one and the capitalist one, both got boring within 5min.

Dude... I have a few friends who have 300+ hours.

Personally I don't subscribe to these types of games, frankly I don't see the point in them. There's no progression and no failure state, not a game as far as I'm concerned, at least by my definition of game.

I don't know why I play these types of games...

At the moment I'm playing Adventure Capitalist and Clicker Heroes, but for the life of me I don't know why. There is something very addictive about clicking and getting more and more stuff.

Also, it's an easy game to just click for a moment, leave and let it run in the background and click some more later.

Don't even say the word cookie clicker... now you have me intrigued about these other clicker games

The one I see people play the most is that Adventure Capitalist.

I haven't actually played it myself. How is the developer making money since it's free to play? Are there things that you can buy ingame or ads or something?

The only one I've played is cookie clicker which is browser based, i haven't tried any actual standalone clicker games, that seems a bit extreme :p

Yes. You can spend gold (which you buy) to permanently increase your multiplier, to "reset" for free (other plays will understand), or to fast forward days or weeks.

You can buy ingame boosts and whatnot, but its easy enough to do it without paying a cent. The only thing going slow now is my moon angels :P

I'm thinking of giving the game a try just to see if I can make a clone over a weekend. How would you describe your ideal clicky game? How about a game like Adventure Capitalist where you don't have to click but do something else? Like um dodging stuff or something.

That could work, I actually like the fact that I don't have to do anything anymore except log in once a day to check up and buy upgrades. Just remember Adventure Capitalist takes forever before you start earning angels, reset as soon as you have your first 100, then keep doing that every time you double your angels. That is how I did it

I Blame Wyvern. Talking about Cookie Clicker and Adventure Capitalist on TS while I'm trying to smack rift guardians in D3.

I was non the wiser until you mentioned those names. Like a bad drug I say: Don't know why I do it but I have to get my fix.

If you feel up to it and is bored at some stage can you send me a pm of what your ideal kind of game like this would be... that doesn't actually include clicking? I'd love to make a clone of some sort but the game doesn't appeal to me so I need the input of someone who actually enjoys these kind of games. Hehe sorry for the homework. You don't have to do it. Just maybe. :)

LOL basically I love Adventure Capitalist the way it is, maybe just a slightly faster pace tho. I need more of a reward. I do need some kind of achievement to aim for. Clicker hero I got bored with quickly especially since it is way to easy to cheat on which is not so easy with adventure capitalist. Clicker hero drove me nuts with all the clicking. At least with Adventure capitalist, they have an autoclicker built in which you buy
