GTX 560 cooling issues

Howzit,

My cuz has a GTX 560 and it recently started overheating on games that it use to run well and cool, all the time. Its goes up to 90 degrees and then slowly starts crawling to 100 degrees. The PC then shuts down as a safety measure. Put a blower next to the PC :D and ran it when it was hot, dropped back down to 40 degrees.

So I think the fan might be failing to cool effectively. Can the fan be easily replaced? Where to look for a replacement fan?

He is a student. So, every cent counts.

I too also had a GTX 560 and had heat issues.

Firstly, open the PC take out the card and clean it, dust can build up extremely quickly and you will be amazed at how thick it can get, especially on heat sinks. That would easily drop the temps 10 degrees if not more.

Secondly, I am not too sure if this could be the case with your card, as it may differ with manufactures but, the problem I has with my card was the fan. Stupidly it ran at 40% of it's maximum fan speed. Constantly. So, regardless if it is at idle or maximum output the fan speed remained the same.

I downloaded and installed MSI Afterburner and set custom fan speeds to it the increases in temperature. 40% is the base speed so, every 10 degrees in temperature, I set it to go 5-10% faster. It sounded like a jet engine when I played BF3 and 4 but it stayed cool. Play around with he settings you can keep it cool and quite with some trail and error.
 
Thanks. Yeah he got the fan running higher and does help for a while. And it does sound like a jet. Could thermal paste make a huge difference?
 
I have a 560Ti and it too has some heating issues. but it is very dependant on what game I'm playing
