So, yesterday I did a last test run of my HD7850:
> Reinstalling (into case)
> Swapping out cables
> Trying a different port on the card
> Trying a different port on my monitor
> Starting through safe mode uninstalling the card, then restarting normally
> Even uninstalling programs I felt may be interfering with the card
Problem persisted.
A brief explanation of what takes place (in case some of you have experienced this before):
1. PC starts up
2. Loads up past POST
3. Loads "Loading Windows" screen
4. Takes longer that normally booting into Windows
5. Eventually loads "Welcome" screen, but, horizontal pixelated lines across certain areas of the screen.
5. Cuts to a 'Windows Blue/Black' screen, not BSOD
6. Idles
I remove the card, use onboard (on CPU) graphics chip:
1. Windows booting is normal
2. Loading into Windows is normal
3. Everything works
I inserted my old 8800GT, and it worked for around 10 mins before crapping out. Baring in mind, the card was screaming.
I did not expect it to work, thb.
My best deduction so far is:
The PCI-E slot is faulty
The card is faulty
I intend to bring it in to work tomorrow to have it checked. That is my last resort.
technically a slot cant actually go faulty its just a piece of plastic with metal connectors, sometimes dust might go in there or due to mobo flexing the board might develop hairline cracks and the copper connections inside the mobo breaks down.
