What I did notice was, is that Windows crashes on startup, as evidence by the half-a-second-Windows-7-intro-tone-before-a-constant-'grrrrrrrrr...'-sound.

Bare in mind (my new phrase now, apparently...), the only peripherals I could DC were the fans and DVD Writer, which really is not much.

Having had my old card running fine (albeit 5 minutes) and my current one not can well be an indication of not enough power (current) delivery to the card. Something else I noticed; the dB level of the system (since the card is rather quiet in itself) dips dramatically. Sound remains consistent when booted up without the card installed.

My colleague is now going to run tests to verify my theory of lack of power draw.

I'm now just waiting on his input.

Do I need a new PSU or new GPU - only time will tell. Could very well be a formatting of Windows that needs to be taking place, but that's a last resort.

Reinstalling Windows is free, buying a new GPU or PSU is not :)

Obviously reinstalling Windows if your PSU is actually broken won't help, but you can reinstall Windows in the mean time perhaps just to check?

If something is broken, hope it is your PSU and not GPU. Cheaper to get a new PSU

Yes, it would be cheaper to replace the PSU over the GPU. I'm waiting for feedback from my colleague, but I to reinstall Windows as a last resort before doing any purchases. Maybe I will have to perform the re-installation today and not wait for the weekend. First want an update on the card.

i should note: there is a knocking or drumming coming from the card, I don't remember it doing this previously. It's really only audible when you put your ear near the card while running. It's worrying.

Just got back from the dentist, crowns are done. Next up is a followup meeting to plan the extractions that needs to be done in oct.

Yea slowly and very expensively. But I am also going to change my hospital plan at discovery to a medical aid that covers more at Momentum. And its just R400 a month more. So less going out but maybe that will cover more expenses.
 
And magically I have been subscribed to TK. I think Tapatalk automatically subscribes me to a thread if I posted in it using Tapatalk. I turned off the setting last time, so I guess an update reverted it again. :mad:

I don't use Tapatalk, and I find myself subscribed to recent threads as well.
I will unsub and find myself re-subbed again. I don't manually subscribe to threads.

It's happened to me that I sometimes accidentally tap the star button at the top right of the app and end up subbing to the thread. Maybe you tapped it by accident?

I don't think so. I don't use Tapatalk often, I just like to use because it gives me notifications when I get quoted or mentioned, which is nifty. I rarely post from the app itself.

I'll unsub myself and check when I get sub'd again.
