Free Games - Limited time only!

I'm struggling to get RA2 to work on Windows 10. I finally managed to get into the game now and play the first mission, but partway through it the game froze (video froze, sound continued and could still click & move units around). Alt-tabbing out and back in broke the game.

Anyone else been able to play the game problem free?

Last time I played was on Windows 8.1, so I'm pretty sure it will work the same (or rather I hope). There are a couple of tweaks you can apply to the game to make the visible area bigger (i.e. play in a "zoomed out" view). It makes the game feel slightly more modern, but is kinda a cheat due to your ability to view more of the battlefield at once. :p

You can always try CnCNet's client to see if it improves compatibility support with Win 10.

Download it over here: http://cncnet.org/red-alert-2

At the moment it's 95% implemented, but give it a shot and see if it's any better :)

PS: And don't forget, it also adds free online multiplayer via CnCNet too ;)

It's awesome that Steam has started to giveaway free games :D.

Steam been doing it for years?

Valve already had Portal, Portal 2 Left4Dead and so on for free. If you referring to games on Steam for free, that depends on the developers and not Valve. In the case of above you have to thank Oddworld Inhabitants not Steam ;)

Yeah it has more to do with the developer/publisher. But it's nice that this new trend of giving away games for 24 hours has started :).

The Oddbox is a good deal too. $3.24 for
Abe’s Oddysee
Abe’s Exoddus
Munch’s Oddysee
and Stranger’s Wrath

I used this guy's guide to get the game to work for me (win10).

I had to do the same thing to get it to work on my dad's laptop that runs win7.

He doesn't specify which Win XP to use, but it is SP2, not SP3.

Hope it helps someone else as well :)

Oh....so my thread is now fairly obsolete...

Nah I don't think so, I prefer picking up stuff from the thread since its more decent games and I don't need to go through all the junk and potential waste of times spent on registering. If its here at least we know it works :D
