All Things Forza

True, you probably should not get into the habit of cutting corners or riding with 2 wheels on the curb, as i think it is not an exact science as to when it gets flagged as dirty. Some corners it's not always clear how far you can push it and then you end up with a dirty flag.

I do however know, i've been hitting a few curbs with 2 wheels going over the line, without getting flagged, but i guess there are some limits.

Incidentally, DieGrootHammer , your current best lap, i think it's the 4th corner (the first long straight) i can see you went 2 wheels onto the curb and it actually pulled your car off-track making you do a wild inwards pull to get back on the track (you can probably shave .5s off your time if you get that right, because i fly right past you there) . Pretty cool how you can immediately feel you have 2 wheels on a different surface...

I know which corner you are referring to. That particular one is just ripe to be cut, but dammit once your wheels leave the asphalt it's real easy to loose a lot of traction. I nearly lost the car there. It's these subtle changes they made to the handling system that make this an incredible game.

I think in free play if I rent a car then I don't get XP or that car make xp thingies whatever that is called again. :) So nah, I think I'll wait for now.

I tend to buy a lower rate car, upgrade to the required spec and then tune it accordingly...

So far I haven't touched tuning and the upgrading I've left to the automatic upgrade. I must try DieGrootHammer's technique with the upgrading and go for the tires. Man, I'm a bit far behind you guys in this game it seems. Have a lot to learn.

Yea , much like Forza Horizon , you can buy a D-class car and upgrade it to S-class , i'm not sure whether there are "automatic" upgrading, i usually just browse the tunes from other players and pick the one with the applicable stats (filtered per class ) . Some players even conveniently call their tunes things like "extra grip for rainy track " .

Or easiest yet, go to leaderboard, pick the no 1 in the world for the given track (or someone high up with a car you own and using similar assists ) , get the car he is driving, download+install his tune (directly from the leaderboard) and go ;)

Wow I didn't even know this. That is a real useful tip there, thanks! I'm gonna try that this week to see if I can't get a good tuning for my new car. I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to the tuning aspect, and it would be amazing if I can just download a good setup for my car.

I'm pretty clueless too, that is what i've been doing . If you go into "setup manager" (when in the tuning menu, bottom right corner) right before you race, and you just browse the online tunes, there's hordes of them, but you can filter nicely per class , per weather , per specific track even . It works pretty much like the livery/designs of the car , you just install it and off you go.

However, last night i picked one straight from the leaderboard (while in rival mode) , when selecting a player you'll see an option to download his full setup (assuming he used one and made it available for you to download). Most of the top racers usually have their tunes available for download.

So all i really check is the "speed | handling | acceleration | braking" stats, and maybe an eye on the weight and then i hope for the best ;) . I'll get into it over time i guess, since the tunes cost credits too, so it becomes expensive if you try too many tunes. My plan is to play with a few of these pre-made tunes and then start adjusting them myself to suit my needs when it comes down to shaving that last 0.1s of my time...but right now i'm still going from shaving 10seconds off my time just by using a different car, nevermind the tunes haha.

That's most of the fun for me, speccing and tuning my ride. I'm not interested in using others specs and tunes, though I can appreciate and understand why some would and please, by all means go ahead if it helps you ;)

Awesome. I'm definitely gonna try that then. Hopefully I can get a good tuning setup to push that 2:20 barrier.

You see, you are clued up of the intricacies of tuning, seeing as you are such a hardcore racing fanatic. I wish I knew a bit about the tuning, as I can fully appreciate the fun one cat get from tuning and testing.

well that's what it is, fun, for me. Not trying to talk down on you or anything, just saying it adds a whole new perspective to the way you play racing games. Which to me is also why I like racing alone so much, it's not about the stupid AI or the ramming of other players. But just me and my time (or others).

On a side note, with regards to these challenges. Is it really fair to take a car such as a Formula E (or other "race car" or open wheel car) which have been designed for racing and downforce and grip. In all fairness, it doesn't allow for a Class-S Nissan GTR to compete with a Formula car of the same class?
Maybe we should all stick to production cars, rules out racing specific built cars. ie. GT3, GT4, etc.

Thoughts?

Interesting point you're making. The Leaderboard doesn't have that option to "rule out" certain car types. I trust that the car class is calculated on certain aspects to ensure that the cars in the same class are all capable of competing against each other. If I look at the world leaderboard for Silverstone, there are several production type cars in the top 10 laps. It's not just racecar type cars that fill up the whole leaderboard. Also, nothing is prohibiting anyone from using a race car to set the time. For that reason I would say that we stick to restricting the Class only, freeing up the car choice to be yours to make. That's my feel. Taking that Formula E as an example; the time I set in it is pretty close to the fastest lap time set on that track in the world, meaning that the Formula E can only go so fast. There are MULTIPLE cars types that are faster than it. In fact, my current Rival I'm chasing is driving an Aston Martin DB9. While I do feel there are certain advantages, each type brings it's own challenge to the track.

So that's why I would say we keep thing as is.

I initially thought as much too, however then i looked at the leaderboards and there isn't even a Formula E car in the top 100.... so something tells me there isn't really an advantage if your car is tuned appropriately..... I think only reason Formula E in this example got a good start for some people is simply because its DEFAULT configuration is good for the track.

I think a better solution is , whoever creates the challenge for the week can decide what restrictions to add. Same as the "Top Gear" showcases in the game, they even restrict you to one specific car , but is it that much fun? I think the ability to pick any car is the fun aspect.....but it might be interesting every now and then with some restrictions...

Ultimately though, since as DieGrootHammer mentioned, the leaderboards are not restricted like that, so to restrict our little community here would be somewhat silly. I think we all wants to not only post the best score within the MyGaming community but the entire Forza 6 community....and for that you need to be able to pick any car and tune it unrestricted within the specified class (because the rest of the world can too).

Likewise with the assists ... you can put on all the assists or turn them all off , your time is still going to count...would be equally silly to say you need to turn off your ABS when the rest of the world do not have this restriction.

I wholeheartedly agree, and there are an abundance of production cars as you know, this is why I suggested it.

I do think the Class brackets do a good job at ensuring we don't need to worry about Formula vs. Production car problem....what is the highest class ? X2? R? I am sure on that level it will probably start coming into play, but so far it looks like Class S and lower, formula cars can't be tuned enough to be overall superior... Otherwise this game would be very boring, it would have been a F1 Grand Prix simulator instead....

Wow. Come back here after a hectic few days at work and there's pages to read through.

Apparently wet driving is not for me. I've had to enable STM and TCS just to put in some halfway decent lap times. My poor ego.

Regarding the car selection, I think its best if the options are limited in very specific themed circumstances. Such as classic F1 cars on the 'Ring. I'm sure the class system makes it fair enough.

On car selection, how about this: each week, to make things fair and give everyone a chance, a new challenger will be picked. Otherwise if someone just isn't fast enough they'll never get to pick a challenge. Then, as challenger, it's your choice as to limit the cars we use to a specific class, type, manufacturers or production year. It's completely your choice. But we all agree that whichever you pick, the car subsection will me limited to a specific class rating. What do you guys think of that idea?

I have no problem with this
