Mygaming low on content

Hi All,

So this has been bothering me for a while but mygaming news articles seem quite dead. For example this weekend was blizzcon and yet there is not a single article for this. There has been a ton of news for Fallout 4, Steam and a few other articles but all we have gotten is releases for the week.

Is mygaming understaffed or not just interested anymore? I find myself going to the site less and less and this is quite a shame I use to enjoy it but it honestly lacks content. The only thing still worth going to is the forums.

Am I just being picky or does anyone else think there is a problem?

Kind of Tend to Agree with you! Seems more like a forums for a bunch of like minded people. Which it should be as well, but more related and relevant articles would be awesome. i do think most of the time and resources goes into MyBB though

Yep thinking the same thing, Not having a single article for blizzcon is quite strange. Perhaps they need to look into more community driven articles and freelancers

I fully agree. I also feel like, since James left, we've all been left completely out of the loop with regards to who's even contributing. None of the current writers were ever introduced to us, and none of them seem to have any interest in interacting with the community either.

I've been wondering for a long time if maybe MyGaming just wasn't a success for MyBroadband. So now they have one staff member who does articles (maybe part time? Or some for MyGaming and some for MyBroadband). I also wonder if they just keep MyGaming going for us regular folks who would burst into tears if MyGaming is shut down. Please don't ever let that happen.

I was also expecting a Blizzcon round up... The only thing that keeps me on this site is the forum, the articles, if they actually turn up, are often very short, and basically just taken from other sites and re worded...

I've stopped reading most gaming news on here because it all seems just like regurgitated articles from external sources. Half the time is stuff that's been available for days on the more popular international sites.

Wouldn't mind seeing something more unique to MyG.

They desperately need columns, in my opinion.

I agree with your assessment. MyGaming pulled me in with it's great content and well written articles. I used to not even touch the forum back in the day. I was only here for the articles. Slowly but surely it seems that the focus shifted away from the articles. Now it seems that most articles comes from either MyBroadband or MenStuff. Seems Jeremy is very busy with his site, and almost all his gaming related articles makes their way to MyG.

I would love to see more content be created for the main MyGaming site. I'm sure that part is the foundation on which this whole site is built, and with new eyes on the main page, more people will be inclined to come over onto the forums for additional discussion as well. the fact that there is so little activity on the forum must point to the fact that there is either not enough content or not enough people, both of which can be rectified.

I would also want to see the mods much more involved in the community and the forums. We usually wait really long for feedback from the mods on a particular event/case/thing which doesn't sit well with me to a degree. Surely the forum is as much part of the property that is MyGaming than the main site.

All of these issues has lead to be feel like the MyGaming property is a minor distraction to the people over on MyBroadband. Maybe I'm wrong, but sometimes it feels like there isn't a lot of care or commitment given to MyGaming.

The MyGaming brand has the potential to become the biggest gaming news outlet in SA, but without any commitment and work it won't achieve what we all want MyGaming to become.

I hate feeling like this, and I'll be honest it's the number 1 reason why I don't feel a real urgent sense to post as much anymore on the forum.

Yep let the community start taking over if they don't have resources.

Well I wouldn't go that far, but if they could just write some proper opinion pieces, rather than "here's another list of 5 things I just thought about", that would go a long way to drawing interest, even if (or especially if) it's a controversial opinion.

These are all valid arguments and I have also thought the same. There needs to be some form of continuity and recurrence with the articles, maybe a column is the way to go.

In all honesty I think this place is kept around purely to appease the masses (us, the forum users). I never read the articles, as mentioned it's often just excerpts from other publishers, this is the annoying part for me.

Maybe we should appoint some freelance writers within the community to write columns, as mentioned before, like minded people.

should send this (and maybe some other well worded replies from this thread, if any) to the site owner ........ make the voices from the users count ;)

MyGaming misses Azimuth. She was controversial and she writes exceptionally well. Her articles were some of the best here at MyGaming. Unfortunately she's over at IGN Africa these days.

I just don't think that MyGaming is a money maker and with that they probably aren't finding it worthwhile paying people to write for the site. Which sucks but what can you do?

But is that really what we need, a journalist? Or an opinionated game enthusiast?

Yep what I mean is get a contributor type model which allows community members to write and publish articles that get's reviewed and posted to the main page. The more articles and confidence you get with contributors the less resources it will take to review articles of users who are well known contributors. This will then give mygaming writers more time for articles that require more research.

Hah, thought I was the only one that noticed all the Top 5 articles.

Well, for the longest time now MyG has been a source of yesterday's news. When they do publish some news it's often accompanied by a source that is another games journalism website who published the story 1 or more days ago.

But the community is nice and though I don't post often I lurk quite a bit and pickup some good news from the discussions here.

Would be nice if they renewed their focus on news as I'd like to support the site - would hate to lose the community or worse: have it merged with MyBB

Why not both?

I agree. Both types of articles have a place on a site, one to give commentary on what's going on in the gaming world, and another giving the news as it happens.

You are welcome to send it to whomever you want. If it helps in the end of the day.
