South African Rand coming to steam on 10 November

Only if pricing is all that matters. There are intangibles to consider. Personally steam services levels vastly superior to the local sharks + steam refunds no matter what as long as you are within 14 days/2 hours played period. Good luck trying to get the local sharks to give you a full refund on a pc game...

Well the price is all that this thread is about.

Done. As the site post suggests, pretty sure they just need to get all the store pricing plugged into their database. The range of games missing prices does seem a bit random though?

It didn't seem all that random to me. I immediately noticed loads of Bethesda titles not being priced yet... Waiting for Morrowind GOTY to be priced to ZAR, it's been on my wishlist for ages.

Oh weird, I haven't noticed that yet. Are they completely missing prices or are they still showing Dollars?

Damn, I know its all in the mind, but seeing prices in rand makes it looks more expensive! Being used to see it in $'s makes the game look more expensive when looking at the rand value...Space Engineers, R269? Really, I paid like $15 or $20 for it...oh wait... :wtf:

Not that I just bought on sales, I did the math, just now its in your face, not a mental note. :D

If you don't know that $20 = R280 before you purchase it, then maybe you shouldn't be purchasing games on your own yet. ;)

Nah I agree with VirtualForce, psychologically games feel more expensive even though they aren't. Just because the values are bigger. It's like the whole thing where prices end with a 9 because psychologically it deceives your mind that it's cheaper than what it is. The same effect is happening here. Doing the math and seeing the prices are two different things and it would make for an interesting study.

I know what a dollar cost, even though I am not financially inclined, I watch the financial indicators. I was trying to say, to my eyes at least, for a split second, $19 looked cheaper than R280. When I buy something in USD, I get a SMS within a few seconds that so many ZAR was taken from my tipbank.

But yeah, dont tell my wife...

Maybe it's because I'm a special little rainbow but I've always done the math before buying. And I did a Zuma on it as well: Exchange is 11.34? I add up to 12, just a bit faster

So, yeah. For me it feels like Christmas came early.

Just wish I had a place to set up my PC. Going on a month of only being connect through work and phone.

But that's a tale for another day. ;)

Not really.

Not really.

Just because something doesn't affect you doesn't mean it doesn't affect other people. There's more evidence of this occurring in this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/779689-Steam-will-soon-be-priced-in-ZAR and I saw more people mentioning it on Twitter.

Here's more information on psychological pricing:

Don't forget that many banks charge a foreign transaction fee on top of the FX spread.
