There may be more than numbered sequels in the Fast and Furious franchise's future.

Speaking with Variety, actor Vin Diesel revealed that the creative team behind the action films has been working on a similar expanded universe model to Star Wars and the Avengers by creating side stories and spin-offs that could potentially be used to supplement the core films.

“We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” said Diesel. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”

No further details surrounding the plot or characters in these potential stories have been released.

An eighth film in the Fast and Furious franchise has already been announced and will be directed by F. Gary Gray, who helmed Straight Outta Compton.
