Official Star Citizen Thread

Meh I don't mind the bugs at the moment. Since this is really my first space game I am taking this time to get used to controlling the ships.
So by the time the game actually releases or gets a better build I won't crash into everything around me.

Also can you guys can add my referal code to the first page aswell, please :D

For those still undecided about whether to go the Test Universe route, or hold on for a while until a live version of Alpha 2.0 is released, this comment from one of the CIG devs Zyloh may help you decide:
It has been mentioned that we are pushing out builds and failing due to crashes... that is incorrect.
We are pushing out patches that we know have crashes in them already. Those crashes are being addressed already, and being knocked out very quickly. Layers of an onion.
Some might say... "Why release a build with crashes if you already know they are there?" One word: Data. We want to know how wide-scale these issues are and all the gritty details.
Additionally, we would much rather continuously push the newest version of the game and have thousands and thousands of people hammer on it, because there is a chance new bugs can be discovered.
PTU is not meant to be a release stream for everyone to just go and play. It is a test environment meant to plow through issues and get the game in a release-ready state.
We are methodical with how we are releasing patches. We are not blindly pushing crashy patches. There is a lot of thought, analysis, tinkering, and fixing that goes into the PTU. It is not an environment for the faint of heart who are just looking to relax and play in Crusader. It is for players who are willing to face the storm with an umbrella and assist with testing.
Since I last posted in here a few days ago Patch I of PTU2.0 has been released, and overnight I see Patch J is already being readied to go out to the test servers.

I think i'm just going to put this on the back burner , i do enough of this sort of thing at work. Looks like i'll be playing Elite-Dangerous this holiday then.

Three days and three Test patches later, and Star Citizen Alpha 2.0.0 is released to the live public server in the early hours of this morning.

A 30GB download after your launcher has updated, and you'll be able to access a mini-universe with samples of most of the major Star Citizen game play features:

Open World Missions
  • 8 Comm Array missions involving dogfighting and EVA, 8 Research missions involving protecting civilians or recovering lost data and 1 Exploration mission of an abandoned station.
  • 20+ Random Encounters – Most are random dogfighting encounters, often with a mix of friendlies and hostiles. 4 are random exploration missions involving finding lost wrecks.
First Person Shooter
  • Recharging energy weapons.
  • In-game pick-ups including ballistic weapons, ammo and MediPens.
  • Player healing.
  • Due to the open-world architecture of the Crusader system, FPS combat can occur on space stations, on the decks of ships, or even while engaged in EVA.
  • A space station location specifically designed for and dedicated to FPS combat, including many stores and caches of personal weapons.
Spaceflight
  • Constant and ongoing skirmishes and space dogfights between Pirate factions and insystem security forces in the Yela asteroid belt.
  • Wreckage to scavenge in the Yela asteroid belt.
  • Ship Repair, Refuel and Restocking at Cry-Astro.
  • EVA – Extravehicular activity.
  • Multicrew Ships.
  • Multicrew ship gameplay! You’re not tied to your seat, you can walk around inside your ship with friends, and assume different responsibilities at different crew stations, such as ship’s pilot or copilot, engineer, or turret gunner.
  • Ship to space transitions.
  • Seamless first-person gameplay! Transit between the interior of your ship to outer space and back without any loading screen! Fly, fight, and spacewalk all in the same game.
  • Quantum Travel, complete with limited fuel mechanics.
  • All non-snub craft have a Quantum Drive that allows them to travel through local space at genuinely 0.2 speed of light.
  • Mobiglass Mission and Journal system.
  • EMP warfare in the Avenger Warlock.
  • Large World tech that allows for extremely large expanses of space to explore without loading screens.
  • New IFCS Flight models.
  • Ship repair refuel and restock.
  • Party system.
  • Multi-ship crew stations.
  • IFCS Flight Modes – Precision, SCM, and Cruise flight modes.
  • Afterburner.
  • Ship-to-ship EMP and disruption damage.
Locations
  • 1 planet: Crusader.
  • 3 moons: Yela with its asteroid belt, Cellin with a station and Daymar with a station.
  • 3 distinct stations: Port Olisar (The new local shipping hub, a space hotel players get their start in), Security Post Kareah (our FPS PvP location), Covelex Shipping Hub (Abandoned shipping hub, acting as an EVA exploration location for players).
  • 1 Cry-Astro repair and restock station.
  • 9 Comms Arrays with encounters, missions and EVA exploration.
A full 2.0 Feature description page can be found here.

That said, it's still important to note the term Alpha in Star Citizen Alpha 2.0.0.
CIG Dev Will Leverett:
  1. The game is not finished. It might be going to live, but it's still in alpha! You are still participating in early access, and there are still bugs and crashes. They happen, CIG expects it to happen, you shouldn't freak out when they happen. Stay calm.
  2. It's going to be a pain in the ass to get in at first. CIG's servers are going to be slammed into oblivion. This happened all the time with PTU patches. Just keep trying, and the servers will settle down with time.
  3. Set aside at least an hour where you won't be interrupted to first play. It's easy to get immersed and lost in the 'verse, and that's the best god damn part.

In semi-related news, soon after the 2.0.0 live release, with a little funding spike, the Star Citizen funding counter ticked over to $99.9-million. That's almost R1.6-billion of our magnificently valuable South African Zumas Rand.

It continues to boggle my mind that an independent games company, building a PC only game, has raised (and continues to raise) so much money from crowd-funded sources in an era when pre-ordering games is being questioned by gamers.

I reckon they reach and exceed the $100-million mark within days (or less) as folk try to become the legendary "100 Million Dollar Man". Nothing officially mentioned anywhere (stretch goal rewards stopped when funding reached around the $60-million mark) but most are assuming he/she will receive some sort of gift ship, and pre-$100-million backers may get some sort of commemorative hangar flair, or special ship skin, or some such as reward.

Just fund $100 000 and you can be the $100m man :D

Edit: They raised $3m last week!

Yeah right. :D If I had a $100K laying around, I probably wouldn't be spending it on a game. Probably.
Scratch my "exceed the $100-million mark within days". $5000 more in the last hour, and that's before the majority of Europe and the US have woken up. It's going to fall today.

Downloading :D that list is huge!

Damn :/ would be awesome if they can extent the Free play accounts for just another week or so. Then my buddy can download this update and we can test out some of those missions.

Next strectchgoal redacted? :wtf:

have they run out of things to promise? :p

They stopped posting stretch goals a long time ago, and just said that any further money will go into making the game better. It's a better approach if you consider scope creep.

that sounds like something government would say :D :p

Lol. Yeah, the last official Stretch Goal was at the $65-million mark, reached about a year ago now.

The "Redacted" thing has become a bit of an in-community joke. CIG used the term extensively whenever they couldn't or wouldn't release info publicly. The studio they contracted to work on the initial FPS elements, Illfonic, were officially referred to as Redacted for months, and it became a bit of a standing joke because people figured who they were talking about pretty soon after Illfonic were contracted.

Why it's still in the funding counter I don't know. Presumably just for the insider lulz?
