So, let me jump onto DarthMol's idea...

No One Lives Forever was a fantastic game that was released in 2000 and was also called The Operative: No One Lives Forever by Monolith Studios.

Nolf is a spy-them-up FPS game set in the 60's. It takes a lot of inspiration from the early spy movies throughout history, all set to a groovy theme of 60's rock-n-roll, bright colours and impossibly complex gadgets. It was a glorious game to play. The game never took itself too seriously, as it mainly featured every single stereotypical "bad guy" and "henchmen" from every spy movie ever. The writing was also beautifully comical and lighthearted.

Nolf's gameplay was pretty fun. The game gave you lots of different spy gadgets type equipment, and the semi-open levels gave you the freedom to play it like you wanted.

I loved both NOLF and NOLF 2, and wish they continued with the series, or even made an HD remake

there was also a third spin off title called contract JACK thats set between the first and second game

i think that screenshot is from the second game

Oh yeah I remember contract JACK. Was a fun game but didn't capture that brilliance of NOLF just so perfectly.

They were awesome games, I would love a remake or even just a re-release of the games. Unfortunately they're stuck in IP limbo indefinitely it seems. Such a pitty.

It's a damn shame really. Both NOLF and NOLF 2 are sitting on 91% on Metacritic. I mean that's not something a lot of games can claim. NOLF must also feature on plenty different lists of Best Games ever.

easiest way to go would be for them to make a spiritual successor, same themes and elements just a different name and slightly different main character

Yes, but that would be essentially completely new IP and it would have to carve out it's own unique player base. It wouldn't be the same without Cate Archer, H.A.R.M, UNITY or anything else that could potentially be considered copyright infringement.

This!

As much as I would probably like a spiritual successor to the franchise, omitting elements like Cate Archer and H.A.R.M would just not be the same. And people will not buy into the idea the same way as witha re-release of the old titles. If the old titles could've been re-released, at least you know they could've banked on pure nostalgia to sell the game well. With new assets, that simply cannot happen.

I actually never got around to playing ut it gave ma some nostalgia looking at that now and made me think of another old title that i wish i could find cos i never finished it. Anyone remember xiii?

I played the 2nd one but not the first, still have the CD's I must give it a go again. The game had some really fun coop too, that tied in with the single player campaign.

I'm not judging, it was ok. There's been plenty of titles that could have been much better - Short list is XIII, SiN and Daikatana

I'm still pissed off at John Romero over Daikatana.

he's actually irrelevant to the industry, tried to ride out the wave of his fame at ID and it failed. cliffy b at epic back then was also a douche like him but atleast he's singing a different tune these days and he's actually putting effort into his game

Yeah, Daikatana was supposed to be his big break. Epic title on the Quake engine in 7 Months...took 3 years and the Quake 2 engine to make a very disappointing appearance. Everything past that point barring probably "Red Faction", was really disappointing.
