Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Currently a small ship like that will have no benefit from a Cell bank. I would recommend you remove it, as it also uses a lot of power. And then perhaps upgrade your shields to something a bit more potent. Something like this if you can:

Also changed your hardpoints a little.

Thanks the cell makes sense but out of curiosity, why the extra multi-cannon? Shouldn't priority be to keep the shields down with the beams?

Gimbals on an Eagle? Blasphemy! Never used them before but i can imagine it does offer more time on target.

Shields go down surprisingly quickly for enemies. I find this setup just tears through them, but then again you aren't going for Pythons/Anacondas with an Eagle are you? With gimaballed, they don't have to remain directly in front, slightly off center and you still impacting them. With the tight turn radius and maneuverability of the Eagle you are constantly keeping fire on your target, and with all that ammo, the amount of bullets hitting in the allotted time is insane.

Once you fight ships with larger shields it matters less to keep the shields down. So I am still in that frame of mind. Honestly though, just find your own happy spot with this. There is no clear cut way to do it.

There's also a third much crazier option if interested:

Thanks guys, I'll test drive the suggestions tonight and see what i'm most comfortable with.

That Rail Gun does look sexy though.

Only thing with rail gun to keep in mind is that it has like a total ammo capacity of 30 or something tiny like that. Because it does a lot of damage. Also it takes a second to fire, so practice and time it. Once you get the hang of it you can have a lot of fun with it.

I felt like starting out fresh and also wanted to change my CMDR name. Couldn't be bothered to submit a support ticket.
I have contemplated the same thing.... but I have come so far :(

So, over the weekend I got stuck into Elite again, and my previous rage-y comments I will retract completely. Made some good credits from bounty hunting, and I love my Viper MKIII. I'm at a point that I can upgrade and buy a Cobra, but it doesn't seem all that worth while right now. I'm planning on hopping from system to system, doing bounty hunting runs and making money until I can afford either the MKIV Viper or something else.
Cobra is butt ugly but it's a good fighter. Loved my MKIV Viper.... Till I broke it :(

So, knowledgeable people of the Elite world, let's talk weapons. Currently I'm rocking sets of multi-cannons and pulse lazers on my ship, all gimballed. I find gimbal weapons easier as I just need to keep the target in my sights and pull the trigger. But, my travels have revealed that finding upgraded weapons for these types of weapons are either very difficult to find, or do not exist. I'm thinking of maybe swapping out my multi-cannons for normal cannons, as I see they have a higher DPS.

What you guys suggest?
I'm running 3 Beam Lasers on my Diamondback now. It pretty much rips most ships I go up against to shreds

And make sure you have the power capabilities of running them ;)

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think for the time being I'm going to keep my cannons and lasers as is until I can get into a bigger and better ship. Think I'll skip the Cobra until I can afford the Viper MKIV

as much as I liked my Viper, the Cobra is A LOT more agile in a fight....

I still wanna try out the Viper mkIV.

The Cobra is nice yes, also for pirating as it actually has cargo space.

Urgh, you are not making it easy on me....

NO!! I'm staying with my Viper for now. I'll keep flying and hunting and stuff.

Considering all the time I've spent bounty hunting, I have used my Viper mkIII for about 80% of that, and I have made about 10mil earnings. So it's a good choice yeah.

So, next question then. What is the benefit of doing long distance travel if you are not doing trading or exploring. I mean I get the further travel will nett you higher profit from trading and exploring, but seeing as I'm still doing bounty hunting, what's the point? Is there a benefit that I'm not aware of, or can I just pick a system and grind the Nav Beacon for bounties?

Exactly this.

Apart from maybe siding and grinding for the purpose of reputation and rank. Most of the federation systems I end in now are allied and friendly with me. I don't believe there is a need for you to travel. I like to find a little nest outside of a popular player based system and visit it occasionally to get good equipment as the higher tech and larger systems will have the good stuff.

indeed. I just change my hunting ground now and again for the change of scenery. And I like a system where the nav beacon and the station are relatively close together.

Well, powerplay is a big part of why some people move around. To conquer new systems for their faction and such. There are also those who just wish to rank up in a specific faction like I do. And to do that you have to travel a reasonable distance.

I should probably add that being allies with many systems has it's perks. Smuggling becomes a lot easier among other things. As well as the rewards you get for bounty hunting. Right now for every ship I destroy I get about 40% bonus for deoing it in a system where I am ranked high. Which is really nice.

You linked/pledged with a power?

Also, that powerplay shit is too deep yo!
