Netflix officially in SA!

Very tempted to get Netflix. But worth it when I already DL everything?

It's nice to be able to watch on demand rather than queuing up downloads at least, and it does make you less of a pirate....

I just want a service that does what i can already do "illegally" "whistling:

Seriously, until they cut the crap with all these restrictions between service providers and actually COMPETE with piracy, they fighting a losing battle.

No no, you need to pay monochoice R800+ per month to be 1-2 seasons behind the US

I laugh at those stupid billboards all around town, "Game of thrones airing AT THE SAME TIME AS IN THE US!!!!"

Bitch please... No one is going to stay up till 3AM to watch the show... Just make dam sure its on the catch up thing when people wake up...

And well done on getting this arrangement with one of the 30 series that are currently running...

Unless they accidentally f*ck up catch up and "forget" to load the episode, double load the last episode with the new episode number or amazingly load the next episode on catch up. You can always PVR it and forward though the 15-20 min of stupid MTN and Vodacom ads.

The only reason I have DSTV still is for Supersport, I find it stupid that we can't get a bundle of just the Supersport channels on DSTV.

I'll probably wait a while before trying out Netflix/Showmax here, at the moment I only watch a few select shows anyway, and generally only watch one series at a time.

But, what will I do with my eye patch then? :(

Kinda the approach I'm taking. Will wait until I can get ALL my shows on Netflix and Showmax before making the final and complete move. For the time being however I'll keep doing what I'm doing.

Not that keen to get it atm and will probably be settled overseas by the time it becomes decent here but these quotes about account sharing are pretty cool for those who like to share -

“We love people sharing Netflix whether they’re two people on a couch or 10 people on a couch,,” Hastings said. “That’s a positive thing, not a negative thing.”

While Hastings didn’t directly address how he feels about non-family members sharing their credentials – such as in the case where friends or roommates may split an account – it’s clear that the company’s consumer-friendly position is more focused on getting people addicted to its content in the hopes they’ll later becoming paying customers – just like HBO wanted, too.

But that's their hook, that's the only thing keeping most people paying for their premium subscription, if they make a proper sports bundle, they will lose a ton of money.

Or until someone offers more money to say Rugby for broadcast rights than say Monochoice and that will be that.

I cant understand how there isnt an Aussie/New Zealand/English sports channel that broadcasts all the games that doesn't have a streaming service... Then again if there was i suppose you would still need a VPN and it would still be illegal even if you pay for it...

Yeah, Monochoice has exclusive broadcast rights to the Super Rugby/Super 15/whatever they want to call it, Tri Nations/Rugby Championship, Currie Cup, Vodacom Cup and Varsity Cup in South Africa. SuperSport has paid £296 million for the 2016-19 Barclays Premier League broadcast rights in sub-Saharan Africa. So it's not happening anytime soon. Sky (NZ) and FOX (Aus) have the exclusive broadcast rights in Aus/NZ. However from 2016 Australian Free-To-Air station Network Ten will start showing a full match replay every Sunday Morning of the Match of the Round featuring at least 1 Australian team, they will also show full match replays of Finals matches featuring Australian teams. Which would be awesome if Supersport/Monochoice would allow ANY other broadcaster delayed broadcasts of matches.
