Teenager accidentally spends R128,000 on FIFA microtransactions

Uhm, the parent is to blame here. Use the bloody parental controls. Yes it will be a pain as you need to authorize every single transaction, but he could have saved almost $8,000. Blaming the console manufacturer or game dev for your very own lax approach is just dumb.

Ya i call bullshit... The kid totally knew what he was doing... He probably just didnt expect it to add up so fast...

The kid definitely knew what he was doing...

Also, I get an SMS for any transaction on any of my cards, surely the parents get some type of notification when something is spent ?

Actually I have a huge bee in my bonnet about "age-appropriate content"; I often see parents buying primary school age kids titles like Battlefield and the likes. Battlefield is rated 18 (PEGI rating) deeming it "Unsuitable for persons under 18" and it contains violence towards defenceless people, glamorisation of drugs and strong language.

However if you point out to these fucktards that their 11 year old should probably not be playing it you'll get told "It's only a game"; Sure, why don't you show your kids "Natural Born Killers" and "Kill Bill" while you're at it?

Yes, some kids can handle these things, but it will have to be under supervision with some guidance.

Seems like its just a lot easier for parents these days to give the kids what they want and leave them in front of the TV...

I accidentally spent R114 000 on Steam games. I only noticed it after 10 years though.

Damn, imagine if I still had that R114 000 now. I would probably spend it all on games. "whistling:

I'm sorry but a 17 how the hell do you not know how a credit card works or that when the button says spend $2 dollars it costs real money. "Kids" these days

Could have thought it was in game currency

But surely the father got notifications of all these transactions, must have been a lot of them...

Lesson of the day, if your kid is using something that has access to your credit card, make sure you set up parental controls and spending limits.
