Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Ballistic weapons have served me well as I carve my path out in blood and steel on my way to owning a Python. I finally found a station last night that actually sells something bigger than a Cobra.

I almost bought the Viper MKIV when I saw it, but it's maneuverability is just bad. So now I have to save for something else.

wait till you get beam lasers. it's like light sabers for you spaceship :p

yes the Viper MKIV is a bit brickish but if you keep your throttle at optimal it's not THAT bad. but yes, it's not as agile as the Cobra is.

I am yet to see a Cobra MKIV though

This game still amazes me...

Guys, how much of your life do you need to give to this game?

Is it something you can "quickly" play for 30-40 minutes in a session, or not really?
Like...is it not as much fun if you dont commit to a few hours of gametime?

Is it persistent in that if you aren't on for a week you either have to start-over or have a lot of catching up to do?
From what is seems thats not the case, but just wanna make sure

Been lurking this thread a few weeks now and my interest is peaking...

As much or as little as you want. It's not the same as regular mmo's where everything moves on and you leaves you behind. Imagine Freelancer multiplayer with regular content updates.

I usually spend about 30 - 40 mins an evening to do some bounty hunting.

Seriously, if you want to roll in the cash go to Aditi (SMJL station or something like that) and do long range smuggling missions. You might need to up your trade ranking a bit to unlock them, but most of them pay 2-3mil for smuggling less than 10T of goods. I'd suggest an Asp Explorer for the bigger cargo space and great jump range. That way you can take standard delivery missions as well that pay roughly 500k to 1.5mil. Most missions tend to want you to go to systems that are in close proximity to each other. With a large ship you can easily stack several missions and earn well over 5mil per run (depending on if you're any good at smuggling).

I've made roughly 40mil off this in the last day and apparently if your trade ranking is Tycoon or higher, you can make up to 10mil an hour. I bought a Python and for now I'm going to roll in that while ranking some more to get a clipper.

In my honest opinion, you can only play it for like 40 minutes or less after you've put a decent amount of hours into it. As it takes a while to finish the tutorials and then to get the hang of all the other details. The game doesn't hold you hand and a lot will be confusing or even frustrating in the beginning.

I would always recommend the game, but you have to be willing to put some time into it. The game shines once you get into the swing of things.

The pirate paintjobs are stupidly expensive. Actually all of the paintjobs are.
Nooit! the pirate paint is one of the cheaper ones at ₤3

Just don't make the mistake I did. Make sure you buy Horizons

Good for you! That little bugger MalicE can be quite the convincing bugger.
Wish somebody would tell my wife that :p

It's more value for money. You will also be getting any future content for the next year.

But just curious here, the 25% discount only applies if Steam detects original Elite on your account and therefor will pay R630 - but what if someone (myself, malice, etc) purchases it as a gift, will we only pay R630 and then gift it to the recipient?

Hmm... I wonder.
