Hello Forumers

I am aware of all the headphone buying guides and threads around but i need to post one at this time to try and get an idea on what will be a good choice of upgrade/replacement with the current prices.

I have been using a pair of Corsair Vengeance 1500 which have Dolby Digital 7.1 and 5.1 surround sound. The cable on the headset has broke for the left ear speaker. Now i am trying to decide what to get as a replacement.

I mainly use them for communicating over Teamspeak and playing League of Legends. I also play offline games like GTA V, Skyrim, Dying Light, Assassins Creed, sometimes battlefield, etc.
I have read some reviews and many of them recommend using a good pair of stereo headphones and avoiding gaming headsets.

Hope you can help

I love my Razer Krakan Pros ! Decently priced, Over ear, closed back, shuts all ambient sound out, comfortable and sounds great.

Hey Dude,

Im gonna go with the reviews you read.

I had the Corsair Vengeance 1500, Razer Megalodon 5.1 and the Kraken Pro's and none of them have touched the quality or sound of the Sennheiser HD595's stereo set with a R50 mic. Only issue no hard button to mute the mic, but ive made shortcut keys in TS and Skype for this so non issue for me.

7.1 surround sound is fully virtual and gimmicky.
5.1 can be emulated so well with a decent sound card you wouldn't notice a difference between a pure 2.1 and a 5.1 system.

So it really comes down to preference and budget. In all gaming headsets the value is in the bundle. E.G volume/sound control/mic and mic control and USB powered/emulated so no additional sound card needed.

But imo Good Stereo with Sound Card > 7.1 > 5.1

thanks for the replies.

Yeah headphones are the way to go if you want great sound quality. I have the Sennheiser HD449 Headphones which I use with my PC and PS4. The difference in sound quality from the PlayStation Headset I had is very noticeable. The Sennheiser was also cheaper and is way more comfortable.

I have the sennheiser hd419 which I bought purely for music listening on computer and phone. they are really great. only thing I found was they feel like they don't clamp onto my head but they are still flipping great.

I have looked around. it seems like the starting price for a decent sound card is R550 and up. that leaves R950 at most for a pair of good headphones for the PC. I'm not so sure that's a great amount unless anyone has some recommendations. I use my hd419 for music. I need headphones just to replace my vengeance 1500 for chatting and playing games . I'm not very competitive but I did like using the 5.1 Dolby DTS on these headphones. I slightly tweaked them using the EQ and improved the bass. I'm not sure if maybe repairing the cable would be a better idea as it has broken just before the in-line amp.

I have looked at Logitech G430(R1400), Kingston HyperX Cloud(R1400), Corsair void stereo(R1500), Steel Series Siberia V2(R800), Superlux HD681(R700) + desktop mic, Razer Kraken Pro(R1200-not a fan of Razer).

hope that helps. if anyone has any recommendations that are preferably cheaper or better than above mentioned at same prices post it on here. I'm really not sure what to do at this point. going to try my Sen. HD419 and a simple desktop mic on Friday and see how it is.
