Official Elite Dangerous Thread

You'd be surprised how many bugs and exploits are found in the closed beta and reported by players who have access to it. You'd be even more surprised to find out how few of them actually get fixed or get any attention...
you're really selling this game to the viewers mate

It's part of development. Most games that get released these days are loaded with bugs, a lot of them even blocker level bugs. But Elite is a lot better than most games out there. And it's in constant development so the reality of things are that during it's 10 year development we will see many bugs.

Damn software testers, think they know everything!

I am also a software tester and MMOs in general have always struck me as a perma-beta anyways. The only real difference is that in long term games like this the developers can happily ignore the error-tickets until management tells them which ones to fix or they lose money.

I sometimes find myself putting together test cases for these games and have to actively slap myself in the face to stop, old habits.

Yup, know that feeling all too well.

Does people still play Elite Dangerous? I wanted to buy the game a while ago, but the steam charts I think or what ever it's called showed poor multiplayer activity.

I'm playing around with my A-spec Viper mkIII and trying to get A-spec components for my Cobra mkIII (which is C-specced).

Nice! You should have enough to a-spec it now though. I a-specced my cobra mk4. And it's been quite a charming little ship. I think maybe tonight I'll see if I can do some mining again. Last night got me thinking about it.

I play every night, around 3 hours or so. Come weekends I spend a lot more, time permitting of course.

Multiplayer isn't really very important in this game. As long as you have some friends and you can form a wing it doesn't really matter if there are other "human players" in the galaxy as you will be interacting with AI most of the time. Due to the sheer size of the galaxy the likelihood of you regularly encountering other humans is anyway very low, unless you go into areas where humans tend to congregate.

The last official figures were about 1.4 million copies sold. Which isn't bad. And I think daily players was about 10% of that on open play. Which is much better than most games out there can hope to achieve on the same scale.

I often see other players in the current system I am playing in, and there are a couple of systems where you will always see a lot of players. So I think the game is very much alive and kicking. The Frontier forums alone prove it.
