FEAR 2 going for over R480 is BS

Yeah but they forgot that people are paying insane amounts already just to run their games, i say, that if u want to up pc game prices to the console equivalents then give us the components that would run it 100% perfectly as well

I think a major factor is the exchange rate. Keep in mind that 6 months ago [or so] it was R6 to the $ so a $50 ~ R300, now it's R10 to the $, so $50 ~ R500...

still wont buy a game that priced though.

Haha, Wantitall has the Guild Wars Collector's Edition going for R 5,008.00...

Well console games cost 50 dollars in the states as well? So why arent we getting pc game prices? 500 rand +/-?

Because console games need to be tested on more hardware, have more support, supply patches, have a call center for issues. Not to mention the before hand costs, such as server hosting, talking to graphics drivers, supporting more CPU types, not to mention support for both DX9 and DX10... Oh wait, thats PC games...

Guess console games are higher priced because they can.

Anything over R350 for a PC game is ridiculous, the industry really seems to be doing everything it can to go to hell in a handbasket as quickly as it can.

That's another point, so many people that complain about piracy also complain about high prices while piracy is the only thing keep the prices remotely reasonable.

Its not really a trend. Its a few publishers trying cash in. Its basicly Warner Bros and Square Enix, if we look at the release schedules they are the only ones with normal edition games well over R400. Everyone else is between R325 - R400 depending on whether you use pre order pricing or not.

I know the owner of wantitall, even from before he started with wantitall.

They are a bit expensive though

They are overpriced. You can import it yourself using shops like CD Universe(US) and shopto.net(UK) and get the games much cheaper than want it all.

I was also shocked to see the steep increase in the prices, seeing as I buy all of my games.

I always thought they were keeping down the PC prices because people spend a lot of money on their PC's to get the maximum performance out of them, where as you buy a console and you don't need to worry about hardware requirements.

And the best part is that you can buy it from Amazon.co.uk for £23.96 which is R343.30.

I think we as consumers, and as the gaming sub culture of South Africa must make a stand against the local suppliers. We could refuse to buy games and just pirate everything until they bring down the prices.

If we can spread the word to other gaming communities we might be able to force them to bring down their prices.

What say thee? Time for a revolution?

I'm not gonna buy it, cause I have a feeling it is going to be one of those games that I only start and then never finished. Didn't even finish FEAR1, was to scared. :o

As partial as I am to revolutions in general it's the "everything" in your statement that has me worried :p. There are still quite a number of PC games that sell between R300 and R350 which I think is quite acceptable given that the price has been unchanged for the last decade and is probably long overdue for an inflation and exchange rate adjustment.

Pirating everything will prove nothing, but boycotting (and ergo not playing) games that are ridiculously priced (i.e. anything R400+ in my world) just might.

Hell if you must then pick up the game on Steam on a day where the R->$ is under R10. That way you'll still effectively be boycotting the local distribution chain. Plus the game uses Steamworks as DRM anyway so it's not like you'll be getting away from Steam if you buy the retail copy anyway.

Freakin' Expensive And Ridiculous Too

Excellent work! Have a high-five and 5 points ;).
