Best Simulation Graphics

I like sim games - but mostly combat sim games. Have not played DC World - but Lock On is pretty awesome for its time and still is. (Apart from needing a 5 year degree to play it)

I can't remember FSX having all those sounds FX. I'll have to reinstall tonight and check it out.

I have DCW also, but never installed it, also never had any DLC. I played Lock-On's predecesor Flanker, and boy it was difficult even then.

I somehow do not know Flanker, but still play F22 Lightning 3, cannot get some of my Jane's titles to work except for F-16 Hornet I think. Nothing as complex as Flight Simulator or Lock On or perhaps Flanker - but still a lot of fun - especially when blasting the song: Danger zone from Kenny Loggins :)

I wish my Jane's F-15 was still working with added modern graphics. What a beast of a simulator! If I remember correctly, the manual was 600+ pages, in English only. I should still have it somewhere.

Loved the loft bombing as I was reading a lot on the 1st Desert Storm back then. Don't know of any other sim that simulates loft bombing. Also, cant recall if F-15 had the GPS GBU

Yeah great stick. I currently use if for DCS and Falcon.
I hate you now :p I wishlisted it for when I win the lotto.

My ideal combat sim would have the zoomed out campaign view of Jane's Fleet Command, the planning part of Falcon 4 and the level of detail and complexity Jane's F-15 had.

Did any sim ever really simulate the Phoenix AA missile's range?

I'm not a huge fan of sim games. I tend to play games to escape reality, not to emulate it. I can see why it has appeal for some people though.

Not sure, the last F14 sim I played was the one by Microprose in the early 90's.

I remember that one. There was also F-19 and F-117 by them, and the immortal Strike Eagle II. Used to leave the objective till last after wiping the rest of the entire map first. Missions used to last for hours.

The Top Gun game obviously had phoenix missiles - not much of a sim. (First Top Gun on 16-bit and the latest one from a few years back that felt like a H.a.w.x clone)

Agreed. I wanted to be a pilot but I'm doing my second choice job.

I went to the air force wanting to be a pilot, passed the theory tests, but because I am colour blind - they would not even consider me for pilot. Was always an interest and I like flying simulators, it is just a bit time consuming and when I leave it for a while - I forgot most of the controls and also find myself starting again with the tutorials.:)

Apart from the movie Top Gun, the F14 has never really captured my attention. The F4 Phantom, it's predecessor was a way more cooler jet, albeit originally designed for gun only dog fights.

The F-102 and F-106 Interceptor jets of the late 60s and 70s is awesome by the fact that they carrier AAMs with nuclear warheads, to shoot down multiple Nuclear missiles at once.

The F16, a wonderful and agile aircraft also never captured my attention. The F-15 is just so ugly and beautiful, has a spectacular power to weight ratio of almost 1:1, fully loaded.

Yep but the only relation to the real thing was in name only.
