ok peoples i need some help
please can you give me 3 options for nice-ish red and white wines that wont break the bank. i have to tell the venue what wines we want. problem is we like rose and i dont really want to serve that at the wedding. also some options for champers besides JC le Roux. and a sherry option as well besides the good old fav OBS
Well, do you want a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage or Shiraz for the Red? On the white side, do you want a Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvingon Blanc, Colombard, etc?
If price is likely the issue I would suggest a Chenin Blanc (white) and Cabernet Sauvignon (red) as these are the two most commonly produced (high market share) in South Africa.
Personally I would push for the Fairview La Capra Cabernet Sauvignon or the Ridgeback Lion Hound Cabernet Sauvignon as the red options. For the White KWV Chenin Blanc or Anthonij Rupert Chenin Blanc.
Pro tip around wine for a wedding (if you're supplying the wine) is have a red and white bottle on each table and 12 bottles of each in reserve at the back. Then buy a couple of boxes of decent wine (oh dear, I put decent and box wine in the same sentence again), but something like a Cellar Cask Johannisberger White and/or Red 5l boxes in the back for the bar to top up glasses with once the bottles are finished. People will be pissed by the time the more expensive stuff is finished and won't necessarily always notice the cheaper stuff later in the evening.
