Funny how I read this in Farnsworth's voice

Yesterday I also installed EDFX and started using it. It's great and all, except for the whole steam overlay getting force disabled. I checked steam's logs and yeah EDFX forces it to be disabled. A bit shit if you ask me.
Yeah, I think EDFX (or the like) really changes the sense of immersion you get and just makes your experience that much more awe inspiring. It's just a pity it now forces the overlay off, never used to. Besides, when the screenshot function did work it never captured with the post FX, which was fine I guess. Though you can still take screenshots, using EDFX built in functionality.
Not too bothered with whether it does take a screenshot with the overlay on or not. I just want to be able to use the Steam overlay with it. I checked the steam service, gave it administrative rights and it now uses my administrator account with full rights. Soon as I set Elite to run in Administrative mode it just outputs errors. So stopped trying to do that, not really sure what else to try. I'll read up on it today though, perhaps and older version of EDFX might work better.
Yeah, thing is, I have been using the same version of EDFX for ages then realised my overlay stopped working. So I don't actually know what changed.
I feel like they need to create a "lite" version which only implements the GFX overlay. And doesn't add all those other unneeded info. But that's the French for you I guess.
I'm actually considering trying out a different overlay just because of this. I hate it when an app changes parameters for other applications without my explicit approval.
Well that's where SweetFX comes in, just something you install (or copy) into the game directory.
Yeah, so why use EDFX over Sweetfx?
Ease of use and being able to change profiles on the fly.
Why need more than one profile?
Well I guess you have different "moods" for different appearances. And sometimes those bright stars can be somewhat blown out.
Just sounds like more work to me. There comes a point where constantly having to press buttons to enjoy a game's visuals makes it not enjoyable any more. It's another command to remember.
Which is why I load my chosen EDFX package and just play with it. I find one that is aesthetically pleasing to me and stick with it. I actually enjoy the post fx look. Amazing how richer the game looks with it. Find the right one for you and live with it.
What is your currently set on? And what other settings have you used?
Yeah, the DoF (blur) is the first thing I disable. It's just taken too far.
With loading the latest EDFX the other night I see there's a new profile, "EDFX 2.5.0.6 Deep Space Black Edition profile" - I have been using it this week only and finding it rather nice. I have also used GemFX and particularly fond of Insomnias profile.
