Bought a GEforce from a friend in the UK. When I plug it in and boot up I get a frozen BIOS and nothing moves further. I put my old card (GEforce 690 Ti) back in, and everything works.
Card broken?
I also notice that that this card has no power needed, is this normal?

I own the same card, just... bought mine locally.
1.
Is there a power connector on any of the sides?
2. What brand is it?
3. How long did he have the card before you bought it?
4. Did you see it working prior to your purchase?
I'm going to assume you've seated it correctly, as your other card works...
Yeah, no power plug is normal on some smaller cards. The PCI-Ex will power it. Sounds like it could be a memory issue? maybe even try update your BIOS firmware?
I assume the BIOS on my motherboard?
yeah that's correct. I'm thinking there may be an incompatibility between the two.
Ok, what is your system specs? CPU, Mobo make and model, RAM (size, type and number of DIMMs), PSU, number of HDDs and Optical drives?
Yes, I think most definitely update the BIOS.

Thanks for all the great advice ;-)
It was the BIOS, once upgraded it worked.
