i7 920 rig

Hi people,

I need to upgrade my old machine and it seems like the i7 920 :D
chip is the best bang for the buck, and should last a while.

Question here is what MB , GFX card, Memory and PSU would you recommend.

My current PSU is 600w Omega iSonic, but i'm not sure if this PSU would
be sufficient in the watt delivery and 12v Rail Amps ?

I would say get a corsair or ocz 4 gig ram.
As for psu a lot of people also recommend the corsair brand.
As for the Mother board no idea.
Go for the 5870 or 4890 depends on your budged.

It's an X58 board, so you'll be buying triple channel memory. 3-6gb of Corsair/OCZ/Mushkin will serve you well.

PSU - Corsair HX/TX 620W.

Motherboard - MSI X58 Pro/Platinum (depending on budget)

GFX - You'll struggle to get the Nvidia GT200 series of cards atm. Rather go with an ATi 5850/5870.

Green Orb has pretty much got it right, but I think you'd be safer (it'd also last longer) if you bought a PSU in the 700-800W category. They're a little more expensive but you wouldn't want the PC underpowered would you? It also kinda depends how many HDD's you plan on using.

And whether you plan on overclocking. The 620W PSU should be more than enough for a system like this. Heck, the 750W happily powers a very overclocked i7 rig (cpu at 4+ ghz) along with a GTX295, which has FAR higher power usage than a 5850/5870. So unless you plan on spending money on a crossfire setup along with overclocking, I wouldn't spend more money on the PSU right now.
 
I would also advise you to waite till the end of the year when there are some specails on. I am also looking to buy a new pc so I am waiting till the end of the year, I have a feeling the i7 prices will fall 2
 
go for the corsair 620w or 650w. Corsair psus are always higher than labeled as. like the 450W, actually it's a 550W.

Now you had to go quote me so can't fix it. Yeah I it should have been 6gigs but where typing fast.
 
Don't count out the LGA1156 socket, Dual-Channel Memory, Much better Bang-for-Buck!

(And the i5 750 gets close the i7 920 in a some games)
 
Only disadvantage to the P55 chipset is the crossfire/sli implementation. Two 8X PCI-E slots are much less desirable than 2 or more 16X PCI-E slots. The top end cards are genuinely going to begin saturating the bus, sooner rather than later.

Also, if you were to go i5, I would honestly recommend the i5 860 over the i5 750. It's about R1500 more, but it's definitely worth it.
 
@Zeroimpact: Also depends on your overall budget of course, otherwise its like asking 'how long is a piece of string?'

And what is your definition of 'lasting a while'?
