Local pricing revealed for AMD HD 5770

Hmmm, now I have a choice for my new PC in December;
HD5850 or HD5770 ?

Will just have to wait and see what fits my budget best.

TBH, At R2000 i think the HD 5770 may be a bit overpriced.

As Zenbas has pointed out, you can buy a 4890 for that. Although, DX11 does look quite cool, and the HD 5770 does perform admirably at 1680x1050...

Will have to save my opinion for the review findings...

From the reviews that Ive seen it performs similarly to a 4870 which is even cheaper still. So unless you are desperate to get a dx11 card then there are better deals out there :)
 
Are you sure that is wise?

With DX11 tessellation support you will get up to 30% performance boost from DX11 titles, so to me the 4890 is great if you plan to play old games for the next 3 years!

I would rather try very hard to get or save for a 5850!

Remember that Tessellation has been used in ATi cards since the x800 cards (could be before that) so the performance benefits have been proven. It just took Microsoft up until now to include it as a standard in DX11.

Now it is an industry standard so it will be supported.

I remember watching he dolphin demo more than 5 years ago on my ATi card and found the technology impressive. I found it odd that it took so long to be added as a standard.

Now that I think about it, and looking at the benchies posted by Spookie here

I see that even in Crossfire, the 5770 is 1FPS slower than the 5870 and 7FPS faster than the HD5850 (in FarCry 2 at 1920x1200 8xAA). And considering that it retails for R2k RRP, and the HD5850 for R2k7 RRP, Tinman seems to be right about it being a bit overpriced.

But currently the prices are approximately 30% higher overall, so in time (hopefully by the time I buy a new PC) prices will have normalised.
