Not just another girl gamer - Meet Julia "BiSH" Robson

Why is gender mentioned every time a girl gamer gets interviewed? I wonder what it would be like if every male was interviewed the same way.

"How does being a male gamer change things for you?"
Well being stereotyped as emotionless and not safe around children, really makes it hard when I want to inspire the younglings into gaming. The skimpy dressed promotional females are a massive distraction at events. But I suck it up because I care more about competing and kicking butt than whining about sexism.

Something like that :D

I asked our interviewer before this article went live whether BiSH was cool with talking about the gender stuff, and he said yes.

Sometimes it's the interviewee who wants an opportunity to talk about something too ;)

You may have 5 Internet points for that :D.

Well, she really does seem like just an eSports Athlete that just happens to be a girl. Much like Scarlet in SC2.
That's the way it should be. :)

But lo and behold, when I'm ever interviewed for gaming, I'll be armed with a list of questions that's usually asked in girl-gamer interviews and I'll insist on having them asked. :D It's only fair (and will make for an hilarious interview)

*does happy dance for the 5 bonus points as well*

That awkward moment ( in grade 7) when some of my male classmates accused me of lying when I told them how many games I had completed... o_O I've been playing video games since before I even attended primary school. Thank you, my dear brothers :D

It's a good thing you normally can't tell who just knifed you after an epic rampage with a massive kill count, or what gender they are

I liked the interview and hope to see more of these at MyGaming. Julia looks like a friendly person and I hope she kicks ass out there!

Didn't know there was a difference between “Girl Gamer” and a “Gamer who also happens to be a girl”.

Girl Gamer is shorter to write.

I agree with that but the article says that they are different. I'm assuming one refers to a "fake" gamer and one refers to a "real" gamer.
The industry is still primarily dominated by male gamers and where members of the fairer sex are involved, it can be difficult to differentiate between a “Girl Gamer” and a “Gamer who also happens to be a girl”.
