In reaction to the recent news that MW2 will not have dedicated servers we need to do something as South Africans to ensure that that we can play the game online.

South African petition to get Game service providers to host IW.net servers for Infinity Ward Locally... http://www.petitiononline.com/MW2ZA/petition.html
Spread the word, This is the best we can do for now...

Lets get as many signatures as possible here, the more we have the more effort will be made.

Remember Heroes of Newerth has already been organised and that is the same general concept as what IW are doing.. This is not an unrealistic goal.

13 Total Signatures.... now we can take over the.... nothing. I have said it a million times. Unless you the the better part of a million signatures on that thing its not going to do jack. Call me when it reached a few 100k. Untill then i will be in emo corner.

Has this been confirmed by Infinity Ward? If you dont have an official statement from them, then its null and void.

"Yesterday Infinity Ward Creative Specialist Robert Bowling went on an information dropping streak about the upcoming PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Those looking to play the game on the PC can breathe a sigh of relief as he tweeted that the PC version of the game will indeed be landing on the exact same day as the 360 and PS3. He doesn't have the minimum specs yet, but he says the PC version will have Prestige Mode and plenty of Steam support, which is good news for those who prefer to shoot with a mouse.

Bowling also dropped some info on the PC version's servers, or lack thereof. On the Bash and Slash podcast he discussed the upcoming PC version and let slip that it would not have dedicated servers. Instead Infinity Ward will be using a propriety matchmaking network called IWnet that runs along side Steam to do all matchmaking so that it will "allow matchmaking for our PC users as well, just like you have on a console that’s built in on Xbox Live and PSN." This is obviously a lot different than dedicated servers as IWNet basically works like a console game's multiplayer and matches you up with players of the same rank. According to Bowling there will be "no dedicated server list," and you will rely on IWnet for "matchmaking and your games, but you still have your private matches." Kind of taking what is unique about multiplayer gaming on a PC and crushing it, huh?

Sorry to get you PC gamers all excited in the first paragraph and then come down on you in the second. What do you say? Boycott?"

Sucks!!!

Will wait to see if its true - oops I "accadently" told the whole world the biggest secret from the biggest pc game release this summer, which will result in many gamers boycotting the game, pirating the game and setting up petitions.... my bad.

Dude even 1000 signatures will get the job done... in terms of gaming service providers they will react to this sort of number... Why are gamers such pessimists.

Ok maybe my maths is wrong but to a company like Activision 1000 sig is like trying to shoot down a plane with a spit wad. Explain to me why exactly Activision or Infinity Ward or any multi million dollar company will give 2 shits about a measly 1000 signatures?

Pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist....

Petition's have never worked and I don't see it starting to work now.

What about Star Craft 2's no lan petition... oh yeah that didn't do anything. Diablo 3 Colour scheme petition... yeah nothing came of that either.

Lets see maybe this time...

WOW its gone up to 35, now they will listen, they HAVE to 35 people signed it.
/Sigh.

I signed my own petition once to bring back oreo mcflurry at the mcodnalds where I live, and they did! Was an awesome day.

Well, the main petition for dedicated servers in MW2 has hit over 48 000 signatures. In 3 days. If you don't wanna sign the SA one, go sign this one instead.

Yeah see if you multiply that by the price of the game, what was it $60? That's roughly $2.8 Million.

It's allready something to note, but how many of those ppl that signed, are still going ahead and getting the game anycase.

IF they did indeed cancel their orders, or boycott buying the game, it's a considderable number, specially only running 2-3 days, it will surely grow bigger than that, and by then I'm sure they will take note, if they have not allready.

Wether they would change it though, I highly doubt that.

Knowing Bobby Kotick, He'll just tell IW to stop making COD for PC, and focus purely on consoles in the future...

Better but i still dont think its going to make a damn bit of difference. Ill sign the international one.

HOW IS THAT BETTER!?!? That petition is appealing to Infinity ward to write new "dedicated server" code less than a month before release... What Im petitioning is that OUR SA GAMES SERVICE PROVIDERS get into communication with IW to host IW.net servers on their backbone for the sake of SA gamers... a FAAAAR more realistic goal which will only need about 1000 people to basically guarentee that an effort is made... appealing to IW directly is a waste of time..

This petition will be sent to iGame, IS and SGS not Infinity ward.

Frankly, that would be better than releasing a half-baked abortion.

OmegaFenix - yeah, I'm generally of the same opinion as you about these online petitions. However, this is a principally online community, so an online petition should carry more weight than it would otherwise. Online is the only way we have to express ourselves in this regard.

Also, it's a case of "if you never try, you will never know".

@ Stebas - the methods of implementing dedicated server code are well known, especially to these devs. I'm sure that if they decided it was needed, they could quite easily develop the code inside a month. Don't forget, most of the developers are busy finishing up their work, in preparation for the game "going gold".

Also, instead of writing a petition like that, I would think that approaching the heads of the gaming services (iGame = Xerowing, SGS = Elyzium) would be more effective.

Either one is an unrealistic goal, its not going to change anything.

How is it an unrealistic goal? We have a Heroes of newerth BETA server hosted by iGame with no problems... and the game isnt even released yet.

I hear what your saying. And i agree Online the the only way we have to express ourselves but i would go spam their servers, flood the forums with these 48k people saying how their not going to buy the game, not just sign a petition and hope they take notice.
