Hi guys.

I am putting together parts for a gaming pc build and I have come up with this:

GeIL Evo Potenza 16GB RAM
SanDisk Ultra II 240GB SATA III 2.5-Inch 7mm
Seagate Barracuda 1.0 TB-7200RPM-3.5” Desktop
Asus H110M-A LGA 1151 Skylake Motherboard - Intel
Biostar NVidia GeForce GTX960 SLI ready
Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake Quad Core 4Ghz
Arctic Freezer A30 AMD CPU Cooler, 320Watts,Fluid
NZXT S340 ATX Midi Tower Case - SECC Steel Frame
?? YAMA YA550 550w Power Supply ??

I can get components for an amazing price.
What are your thoughts,
Thanks
James

Switch out the GTX960 for a GTX1060 or a RX480.
The core i7 is not really worth the extra money over a i5, if you do not plan on overclocking don't get a K series.
The Arctic A30 will not fit on a Socket 1151 motherboard. That cooler is meant for AMD FM/AM2/3+ socket motherboards.
Never heard of a YAMA PSU, may want to get something like Seasonic, Coairsair, XFX or even a Gigabyte or Coolermaster one. A cheap PSU can do quite a bit of damage to your system, rather not risk damage and spend a little more on a trust worthy brand.

Thanks for the reply.
The reason I went for the i7 is because I mainly run games like fsx which is highly CPU dependent and I also do a lot of video editing.
I do plan to overclock a little.
I went for the 960 because I can get it for R3150 Which a a great deal.
I will look for a new cooler and psu.
Thanks again
James

I don't think you can overclock on a non Z chipset motherboard? Even so, if you're dropping that much money on those components, get a decent Z170 motherboard and not the H110.

R3150 for the 960 is a good price, however Biostar is not the greatest (or close to) manufacturer.

If you can perhaps give us a budget amount you plan on spending on the whole build, then we know what to work with.

You're still better off getting an i5, the difference between the i5-6600K and the i7-6700K :

- i7 has 8MB Cache vs the 6MB of the i5
- i7 is ~30% more expensive than the i5
- i7 has 4 cores with HT, i5 has 4 cores and no HT

I'd rather get Corsair Vengeance DDR4 x 8GB RAM and a 750W PSU from either Corsair (HX750i) or Coolermaster (G750M)

Also, I'd go for a motherboard with a Z170 chipset if you're planning on doing any kind of serious overclocking.

My budget is under R20000 and it has to include: monitor(HD), keyboard, Mouse, OS(win 10) and PC.
My original post cost just over R18000 and included: windows 10, monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Thanks everyone

This is another option:

GeIL Evo Potenza 16GB RAM
SanDisk Ultra II 240GB SATA III 2.5-Inch 7mm
Seagate Barracuda 1.0 TB-7200RPM-3.5” Desktop
Biostar NVidia GeForce GTX960 SLI ready
NZXT S340 ATX Midi Tower Case - SECC Steel Frame
Intel Core i5-6600K Skylake Quad Core 3.5Ghz
Biostar GAMING Z170T LGA 1151
Aerocool KCAS850M 850w Bronze Semi-Modular PSU

Including a monitor and OS this system is just under R19000

So here's a build I would recommend

MSI Z170 Gaming Pro Carbon USB 3.1 GEN2 Motherboard
Intel Core i5 6600K 3.9GHz Quad Core CPU
Crucial Red DDR4 16GB 2400MHz
CM Hyper 212X Cooler
WD Digital Blue 1TB HDD
Samsung 750 EVO 120GB SSD
Cooler Master CM Storm Scout II
Antec VP700P 700W

Above should be ~ R 14k

Add the XFX Radeon RX 480

~ R 18500

Look, you can cut it down to about ~R15k if you go :

MSI 990FXA Gaming AMD Motherboard
AMD FX-8370 4.3GHz Eight Core
HyperX Savage 8GB 1866MHz DDR3
WD Digital Blue 1TB HDD
Samsung 750 EVO 120GB SSD
Cooler Master CM Storm Scout II
Antec VP700P 700W
XFX Radeon RX 480

NB - I would strongly recommend the Radeon RX480 over the GTX 960 as they're roughly in the same price class. If you're going for better graphics performance git the GTX 1070 or GTX 1080, but in the mid range the RX 480 is cheaper and gives better bang for your buck.

Thanks, that build looks great.
2 questions: will I be able to crossfire the rx 480 in the future and, where can I find one.
I looked everywhere and they all seem to be out of stock.

Seems you've been given some solid advise, but I'm gonna throw some input in as well. The Yama PSU's are pretty budget oriented. the 450w is what I buy for like under 300 to replace office psu's that have died. its barely above a "no-name" brand PSU at this point. I would definitely not trust it with any kind of discrete or non-shit build :P

Stock seems to be an issue. Keep checking the stores in the below link:

Again, I would hands down recommend the XFX Radeon RX 480; Of all the aftermarket vendors for GPUs I really like XFX. I had one of the last nVidia cards XFX churned out and it was an absolute trooper, even sold it for R 1000 despite being many generations old.

And yes, you will be able to CrossFire the RX 480 providing your MB supports two cards.

NB - As with SLi, Crossfire is not a guarantee to better FPS in all titles. In fact it can actually give you worse performance in some titles.

From some reviews and benchmarks :
Assassin's Creed: Syndicate ~20 FPS increase
Battlefield 3 and 4 : ~50FPS increase
Batman Arkham Knight - ~5 FPS loss
Fallout 4 - ~5 FPS loss
Hitman : ~10FPS loss
Just Cause 3 : ~5 FPS loss
Witcher 3 : ~20 FPS increase

TLDR : In reality you can expect between 30% and 50% gains with certain titles going CrossFire/SLi but certain titles will give no gains and others will run noticeably worse

I want to echo this very strongly. DO NOT SKIMP ON THE PSU. Low quality power supplies deliver a very unsteady output under load which could shorten the life of your other components. They also have an annoying tendency to pop and take other components with them. Read http://www.jonnyguru.com/ for some reviews if you want good advice.

Mobo wise, I'm sold on Asus for life, although MSi make solid boards too. I'd also agree with steering clear of the GTX960 even if you can get it for cheap. There are better cards available now. The new RX470 looks very tasty to me, for example, and at R4k or so the price is good too.
