Don't mind it being changed at all. But agree the 3 options were not very popular with the bulk of users.
People offered to help. So restraints are not really a factor at all.
Did you read what people said above when they showed the logo and site to colleagues that they thought the one controller in the letter as a shirts button? =D That is not very game like is it? And deleting posts is definitely not the way to go on any forum if it was not against rules or harmful towards anyone. That is just how I feel

Yes, I did read what people said, and no, I do not agree with everyone. There are much more restraints that you are not taking into consideration. MyGaming is a business, driven by people higher up making decision. No-one of us knows what the mandate was that was given to the MyGaming team to create a logo. Maybe there is a unified design idea behind it all. Maybe there are some logistical, money or time constraints. You cannot say that restraints isn't a factor. Changing a logo takes time, lots and lots of time. Logo changes can take months of research and redesign and testing. This happened extremely fast, way too fast, and that is a huge constraint. Like I said, maybe there are things in the back ground happening that we don't know about that mandated an urgent logo change.

I don't see how 'People offered to help' leads to 'So restraints are not really a factor'. We weren't privy to the restrains set in the design process, nor the brief given, nor the driving force (which we're all assuming is a copyright issue, but might well be something else altogether.) behind the new logo.

A business yes. That is supposed to attract normal people as well as gamers. So showing them a logo or a tab and them thinking it has something to do with shirts and buttons will not be good for any business, well maybe if you are a Button Importer or distributor. But doubt Mygaming will head into that direction.

There might be factors involved that we do not know about yes. But when so many people said they will help, why not use that help? :) So I once again really respectfully disagree with you.

Time, money and effort were mentioned. nothing to do with legal restraints or anything like that. If there are other restraints it might be useful to clear them up

Either way, this would then lead to very poor management and planning on the behalf of MyG as a whole. even if this is the case it should be stated clearly that it is an interim logo until a design can be finalized.

Fellow forumites, I am going to respond to this post. If you feel that this is fighting or negative, and makes you disinclined from further participating in the thread, please drop me a PM.

I am trying to figure out where the line is in terms of negative discussions that are damaging to the forum, and your feedback on this would be much appreciated.

Constraints? Multiple people said they would do it for free and some even did. Why not add those to the pole. Instead of taking 3 options chopped and changed from previous logos and articles used already as pointed out.
Don't think people are being unfair at all. The active community is what keeps any site and forum alive and I just feel that it could have been done much differently. As you can see from what people have said that do not know the site, that they can't read the new logo and that the tab looks like a button :) That must at least be seen as constructive criticism ?

Saying things like "the active community is what keeps any site and forum alive" makes you come across as entitled, and makes me less inclined to listen to you.

This community is friendly and awesome, I am very happy to have been able to rejuvenate MyGaming's growth so that we can continue to provide it a home. However, based on the stats I pore over every day, the belief that it keeps the site alive is incorrect.

That doesn't mean I don't value the input of the community, as this thread hopefully illustrates. As some have already pointed out, the feedback on this very thread influenced the colouring of the logo.

I don't know if I missed one of the free logos that were designed, but everyone who contributed that I saw really wanted Inky to stay and included him in their logo design. As I explained earlier in the thread, that was not an option, so we couldn't use them if we did a revote.

That was one of the constraints. Another significant constraint was time. Even if we could do a revote with new logos, there wasn't time to do one. However, we could try and incorporate any specific suggestions people made (like the colouring suggestions).

That said, this logo isn't cast in stone. I am open to any further constructive suggestions from the community (like the feedback on the "g" and "a"), especially those who take them time to do a design of their own.

Keep in-mind that we do have an in-house designer who also spent a lot of time working within the various constraints to come up with what he did - there is lots of stuff behind the scenes that you don't see that we have to account for.

While I can't guarantee that we will use a community-designed logo, I will certainly bring design ideas to the rest of the team and see if we can incorporate them. If there are enough variants, maybe we can even do another vote.

Really? I did not say listen to MY opinion or care what I say. The community. Many people been on here much longer than myself. But the members are what keeps any forum alive. A forum with 0 activity is not much of a forum. The few members that post on a regular basis is what keeps the forum active so that people come back to the site to follow and interact. So maybe you just read t the wrong way and took it up as my being Entitled as you said, but that as far from the truth.

Unfortunately this is veering into negative territory (which, admittedly, is partly my own fault) and that discourages others from participating in the discussion, so I won't be replying further here.

Thank you for dropping me a PM. We can continue this discussion there.

Geeezus people! It's just a logo! It's like complaining about the look of the hubcaps on the bus that you ride for free every day.

Sure you might not like the final product but a couple of months from now you will have gotten used to it and will barely remember there was an old logo. Till then it's business as usual.

I think the biggest problem we are all facing is, that the logo changed after a very long time and we are all trying to adjust to it.

Imagine if roles where reversed, we would probably be saying the same things. How the new logo looks bad, and out of place.

I am open to submitting a design (how ever bad it may be) if there are enough then a vote can be taken.

I already got used to it.

Personally I would just change the colours a bit so that it's less Pick n Pay. Maybe a lighter blue like the old one with a redder red. I'll be the first to say that I'm not a designer though.

I made a funny logo the other day but still can't upload it. Strangely enough I can upload images on other threads but not this one.

AMEN

But yeah, no much left to add here. All I'd like to say is that I like the new logo. I like the colouring and I even like the highly controversial "button". It's something that looks like a button in a big word that spells GAMING. I'm pretty sure it sends the right message. And if it doesn't, those people are probably not gamers in any case.

same here

Jan maybe you should show them the other "half a bazillion" designs :p

That is extremely odd. I wonder if there is some kind of pre-thread attachment limitation set somewhere. I'll investigate.

it would appear to be all threads in the "Announcements and Giveaways" section

I also feel that overly complicated logos are bad and difficult to reproduce. I like mostly text logos.

I did post a list in this thread of what I thought. And well the gradient is gone and you made logo no 2 work. I also understand the copyright issue with inky, possibly not with a small forum, but when it grows in size and popularity the rights holding corporation might take notice. It is a valid business risk.

I also understand trying to integrate the d-pad buttons into the logo. They just don't pop out enough I think.

Lastly, I think the shade of blue on the new logo is very dark.

How about the things that weren't mentioned? The fact that we don't see a constraint doesn't mean that there isn't one.. Also, the legal restraint of not being allowed to use the Pacman ghost was definitely mentioned somewhere in the thread (I'm not gonna go look for it, though, this thing grew arms and legs! :D )

If there are other restraints it might be useful to clear them up

Why? If we were given the brief, ja, sure, but we weren't. We were asked for feedback on a set of logo's.

In the end, we're all participating in this discussion because love having MyGaming as our online home, and want to see it thrive, and I think we should all be careful to keep that in mind with this discussion. Serious forum threads always have the potential to degrade to name calling matches, I really hope this one stays out of that region.

EDIT: Geez, I go do some work for a bit, and suddenly there's, like, 20 posts between this one and the one I'm replying to. :(
