What are we doing? Are we all quitting our jobs to go work for our new boss and savior Solitude, making sure he realizes his amazing new idea that will make him the next Koos Bekker? Can we telecommute please? I'd like to stay in Cape Town while working for Solicorp Inc. PTY (LTD)

Sounds like an amazing idea :D

Soli just needs some business acumen and I know of no one better to ask

Haha I already have a PTY Ltd so that's all ready to go.

I like to reserve the employee number 7 please. Just so that when (not if) this company grows and the payroll system starts rolling over to 3 digits to accommodate the highly motivated team of awesome people you've built up, my employee number would then read 007.

Oh yeah!

But is it called Solicorp?

Incidentally my current employee number is 006 :)

Yeah, you'll have a bunch of people that can't code on your side.

I'm a programmer so I don't need any more. :)

lol but enough daydreaming. I really wish I had named my company Solicorp though. It's such a cool name for a company.

I have an idea for a website that's so genius that I almost burst out laughing like a crazy maniac when the thought came to me.

It can probably make me a lot of money but there's possible legal problems plus I won't be surprised if my current workplace will want to take it over should I make it. I was silly enough to sign a contract in the beginning that says that any ideas I have of any kind will belong to them.

Is that even legal? I was desperate for the job back then.
I've been approached by some guys (and a girl) who want to build and launch 2 sites as well. They don't have money to invest in the dev side, but they have a couple of hundred grand to market the hell of out them. They offered me a fairly huge stake in the business if I can help them out doing the dev work... The one guy will be doing all the design work, as that's what he does for a living. Some quite prolific clients he has, including Spur and Woolworths.

So I'm considering doing this after hours to generate some passive income for myself, as running a dev outsourcing business is not profitable in the least, not while clients refuse to pay the rates I know we're worth and being lucky to get paid 60% of what the bigger guys in the industry charge...

My friend the commercial lawyer always laughs when he hears how ridiculously low our rates are. For a junior, articles-completing lawyer he charges 3 times more than our senior rates. Same goes for my business partner's wife's OT practice - she charges around 4 times our senior rates.

That sucks that you have your own company and yet you have to resort to that. :( I hope you come right and make tons of money!

You and me both. I REALLY need to make money quite soon, as I haven't seen a salary increase in 3 years and living costs have spiralled out of control. To such an extent that that wife and I almost maxed out our 2 credit cards and used up most of our savings... So money is very welcome right now.

It's funny how you actually feel the effect of petrol price increases, interest rate hikes, rising food prices and inflation that much more when your income stays steady for a couple of years.

Yep in the same boat, my salary increases has been R500 a year - which doesnt cover a thing these days.

Morning TK
