[MyGame] Psychonauts

mottamort Ya I think I would have been a bit stuck for a while with the sniper if you hadn't handily supplied me with the solution.

I also wandered around the asylum a bit before thinking of the little door to go into their minds. What triggered the thought was remembering people mentioning the Waterloo level in this thread which made me realise I had to go into the patients' minds.

Wanted to test how OBS does at recording gameplay.

Thanks czc, I will have a look this evening. I was a bit grumpy and under the weather last night. Will try again tonight.

Yeah Donisia and i think czc were present on Discord when I was struggling with that bit, although they likely didn't know what I was talking about since I was ahead of them. Frustrating as all hell climbing all the way back, ALTHOUGH you can actually bubble jump straight to the ledge and you only need to shimmy the last metre (at the start). :)

Yeah I must say that I was expecting a different game when I started Psychonauts. I didn't realise it would be way more frustrating than Dark Souls.

Nooit bra!

but ja, I predict you will rage quit on the last level. I almost did (again) :p

I never felt like rage quitting in Dark Souls. Man I hope I can finish Psychonauts.

I'm not gonna sugar coat it for you, the last level is tough AF, and I'm not talking about the boss. Getting to the boss is extremely frustrating.

mmm, where? the only place that frustrated me was
Spoiler: show
fighting your dad, and climbing up the netting with the fire. Never figured out how to actually do it "properly", i just tanked the fire near end and jumped to next bit. Coz trying to shimmy and then jump made me die...and starting at the tightrope jump up sequence is HEAVY slow...feels like it takes him years to pull himself up, and then another month or so to jump to the next rope above him.

Boss fights were fine tho once you got the mechanic, which wasn't too tricky :)

THIS!

I eventually got the hang of climbing the netting, but then that last crossover is buggy and it releases the camera hold which makes it VERY hard. The last time I didn't even get that far. I quit at the start of the level where you have to keep little Oly safe

Thanks czc, your video helped. I got past that bit but I give up. Screw this game. It's giving me high blood pressure. I'll rather play Dark Souls 2.

That's sad to hear, but I completely understand.

What's interesting to me is that we had very different experiences of Psychonauts up to now, I think. I loved almost every bit of it until the very end, and my opinion has now completely changed to match yours.

I finally beat the last infernal level yesterday evening and was close to rage quitting several times. I agree with MalicE 100%, and submit that there are games that are difficult, games that are difficult and frustrating, and games that are difficult and enrage the player by antagonising them.

Psychonauts falls in the latter category.

Congrats on finishing the game Jan!

I've played some difficult games over the past year and some of them have been great experiences but man Psychonauts really worked on my nerves. I like the writing and the story but the actual gameplay is just not fun. It's impressive that you guys finished it.
