Favourite Genre of Music

Solitude

Mr. Nice Guy
I listen to a lot of music every day while working and over the years I've really come to like certain genres more than others.

What is your favourite genre? Post the genre name plus a video of a song or album that's a good example of your chosen genre.

Mine is doom metal. Or specifically funeral doom.

As an example I present Ahab:

Mine is definitely rave music, I grew up with it and it was always played whilst me and my brothers were laning Warcraft 3 one of my favorite games that I play till this day.

I try to listen to any and all music and my taste includes everything from 80's pop to hip hop to dubstep to technical death metal.

However my favourite genre is definitely melodic (death) metal.

Here is some Parasite Inc as example:

symphonic metal , nu-metal and as of late Kawaii Metal

My guilty pleasure however would be some EBM or industrial on occasion

Melodic you say!?

Listen to this guitaring melody of epic proportions. It will make your nether regions tingle for certain!

favourite bands are predominantly metalcore, punk and post hardcore.

also core core, rave core and jazz core

lets not forget Apple core

Wow, so many metal heads here.

My music ranges spectacularly from genre to genre. I love Pop, Rock, Afrikaans, EDM, Metal (only light metal though), classical (specifically orchestral Baroque era), World (like Putumao or Era or Enigma), and Indie. I do not like Country, Blues and RnB.

At the moment the following songs feature in my playlist

wait, did I just share Coldplay in a thread with a bunch of metal songs??? I did indeed, for Coldplay is by far my favourite band in the entire world!!

Oi, favourite genre. Not favourite bands, favourite genres, favourite random videos, favourite potatoes etc. :p

I like fried, chipped or lightly salted potatoes. Just not sour cream...

On topic: I love my melodic progressive metal. So much so that I can't get through a day without listening to at least one album. I listen to it whilst driving, working, exercising and even to fall asleep to some evenings. I'll take some symphonic metal (like Nightwish or Epica), progressive power metal (like Sonata Arctica or Stratovarius) or folk metal (like Orphaned Land, Myrath or Eluveitie) as well, but meloprog (Symphony X, Teramaze, Anubis Gate, Evergrey, DGM etc) stays my genre of choice.

But Soli, it's hard to choose. I can't say that one genre is better than the other. Each genre has its time and place, and I listen to it all during various times of the day. My Top 10 songs of all time pretty much cover different genres. I refuse to tie myself to one!! [emoji14]

I'm totally with DieGrootHammer. There are so many genres worth listening to, it's very difficult to tie myself to one and say that it's my favourite. If I have to give an answer, the greatest number of my favourite bands (and the bands that I listened to throught my teens and 20's) are from the following genres:

- Alternative (primarily 80's and 90's alternative, including New Wave, Dark Wave, Post Punk, Grunge etc.)
- Classic rock (basically 60's and 70's alternative)
- Indie
- Electronica (anything ranging from trip-hop to post-rock)

That being said, I enjoy some bands/groups from genres like Hip-Hop, EBM, Industrial, Punk, Motown and Metal (of various types).

There is a lot of good music out there.
