Morning all

I got called out to work last night just after 23:00 and got back home at about 3am. Luckily that means I won't be going into work today though, which is nice.

XP?!? In this day and age? It's a festering wound waiting to be infected. It's the digital equivalent of removing your front door and expecting not to be robbed.

The folks around here (those whose PCs I've worked on) have old PCs running XP.
Some people are running Windows 7 on their old hardware, but it's really slow at times; making fixing a PC a time-consuming process.

Official support for Windows XP ended 8th of April 2014. There will be no more security updates or technical support for the Windows XP operating system. The problem is, of course, that once patches stop being provided for newly-discovered vulnerabilities, any problems that are found for more recent versions may well be backwards-compatible with XP. The world of Windows XP is a perpetual zero-day, with no hope of relief from danger.

I mean seriously, Windows 10 (or even Windows 7) has very low system requirements :

CPU : 1 GHz or faster (if your CPU doesn't support 64-bit OS then Windows 7 is your only real hope)
RAM : 1GB (32-bit) 2GB (64-bit)
Disk Space : 20GB give or take

These are not super high requirements by ANY stretch of the imagination. Hell, the only time I'll ever allow a Windows XP machine anywhere near anything is if it's NOT connected to the internet and no USB mass storage devices or CDs/DVDs can be used on the system. It's not safe it's not sustainable to run by any stretch of the imagination.

True.

Due to software limitations, we've had to update our PCs in our shop (most of them) to Windows 7 (32-bit).
My dad likes XP due to the little RAM and CPU power needed to run it even with programs installed; so he's still also getting used to the terminology used by Windows 7.

:)
