No Man's Sky

NMS Foundation Update 1.1 out now

It adds the foundations of base building, and is a foundation for things to come. This is the first of many free updates.

New Game Modes: Explorers can now decide to play with different rule sets, across three game modes:
  • Normal mode is the original chilled exploration experience
  • Creative mode allows players to explore the universe without limits, and build a huge base
  • Survival mode really changes the game, creating a much more challenging endurance experience
Base Building: Claim your home planet by finding an uninhabited base and creating your own, fully bespoke outpost.
Construct your homestead for shelter, using modular structures and decorations, replicated from resources gathered while exploring.

Farming: Cultivate biome dependent crops outdoors, or inside your base or Freighter using Hydroponic Labs

Freighters: Purchase huge interstellar Freighters at great expense, and then summon them from anywhere in the galaxy. Resources can be teleported to your Freighter while on-planet, ideal for stockpiling goods for trading.

New Resources & Technology: Discover new biome and star specific resource types as you explore the universe.

User Interface: The user interface has been improved to accommodate the stress of Survival Mode where a small inconvenience can be the difference between life and death.

Full Patch Notes

So far so good, adds more things to do, more reasons to grind. The exploration is also better, although I miss my mods that allows me free control of my ship on planets ;-(

The changes are extremely welcome and gives a bit more life to the game. One of the more underrated changes are the change to the algorithm for generating planet surfaces, which is noticeable, as the very first planet I started on in a new game was much more interesting and pleasant to walk around on than previously.

ja the first planet I dropped into after the patch was almost completely empty. not 1 structure, outpost or even a drop pod. And it looked like a unicorn vomited on it :p

Damn that's just bad luck. I landed on a icy planet full of trees and canyons. Lot's of building and lot's of drop pods

the first thing I noticed was the resources have been rebalanced. Word-stones and monoliths are scarce now. new element's have been added. and you're pulse engine rune on iron, which is also more common in space.

yeah and shield can be recharged with almost anything now. and there are resources you need specific gear to gather

I am playing Empyrion: Galactic survival at the moment and really want to try NMS out full time. I am holding back to let it mellow a bit first, then I will continue with my journey that was 90 hours long at the time I stopped.
