The Long Dark

I was looking for MMO somewhere, that for me atleast, is a turn off. Oh and no zombies, thank the gods of gaming. But I see this is single player....will keep an eye on this one. Looks really interesting. Plus I love the frozen land.

I love the sense of isolation to be honest. I had a few run ins last night with wolves while suffering with possible frostbite and hypothermia and you really get a sense on tension in the game too. My heart rate (in real life) had actually increased.

I'm not reading any of the tips or tutorial stuff you are posting. First time I play I want to go in without knowing anything. Once I die I'll go look at the beginners tips. :)

That's good. And to be honest that's what the game is about. It's a very experiential title, you going to die a lot at first because you need to learn the mechanics and get accustomed to how things work. Like I said, I'll give you 1 or 2, maybe 3 days before you die! But this is a good thing, because you'll learn from it.

If you want small tips here or there feel free to shout, I am still learning a lot too, and it would be great to bounce ideas, experiences and stuff off each other. Biggest piece of advice I can give, do not look up any of the topographical maps online. Although this will tell you where points of interest is and the general layout of the map, I maintain the enjoyment of a game like this is becoming familiar with your surroundings. Get to know the environment yourself and explore.

Your first few nights are the worst. I would also recommend not to start on Pilgrim, and instead start at the very least on Voyageur. My reasoning for this is that in Pilgrim the wildlife will only attack once provoked. With Voyageur, wolves and bears will agro on site/smell. This will get you into the mentality of being afraid of them from the start. You don't want to be coddled with an easier difficulty, only to move up and learn those mechanics again.

Interesting development, Hinterland have recently uploaded a new video to their channel. Could they be hinting at another survivor?
