Headphones Suggestions

If you can find them locally, the Sennheiser PC360's are basically the older (now discontinued) HD595 drivers in a headset configuration. Sadly they have been replaced by other newer models but, some times you can still find them locally.

The GSP 300 has replaced the PC360 but no one locally seems to stock them. So Amazon is your best bet

Sorry but I'm already sorted. Posted just before you. :)

Haha it's alright. I forgive the people. :)

Which one of the two have you got? The Core or the XII?

The non-Core version, just the normal Cloud. Also, not the II version.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I ended up not going with the Kingstons.

I went with these instead. Build quality is apparently not the best but sound and microphone quality are supposedly amazing. Paid for them with eBucks at the eBucks store so it worked out at R1000 which is not bad.

Comes with a 2 year warranty so there's at least that. Will try and get them to last as long as I can.

I don't see them on the ebucks store? I hope they give you joy. When I bought my Sirus' headset way back when, I was also looking at Logitech but I saw too many complaints of them failing for random reasons, even after only a few months. So now I am kind of sceptic about them I guess.

Edit: nvm, I found them. The ebucks store is not the best in terms of browsing, as I went to audio>headsets first and didn't see it. Now I went to gaming and it lies there on it's own between games.

I'm also skeptical of Logitech. This will be the last chance I give them. Some people seem to love these headsets though so it's worth a try.

And for people looking for the ones I bought:
https://www.ebucks.com/web/shop/productSelected.do?prodId=295738356&catId=294436204

At level 5 you get a 40% discount.

I own a pair of these:

Sennheiser HD598SE

and I have loved them for the past 4 years. I use them in conjunction with the Asus Xonar Essense sound card.

I'd highly recommend that combination to anyone.
How big is the difference with the xonar? Have you tried the headphones on its own?

I've got a Sennheiser hd518 set and I'm unsure if it's worth the extra cost.

I used the HD598 for a year before I got the Xonar. What I found was that the sensitivity and dynamic range of the headphones allowed more of the noise of the on-board sound card to come through. It wasn't always noticeable, but it was there. The Xonar doesn't have that problem. If interference or noise doesn't bother you then I wouldn't suggest going for an expensive sound card.

Edit: That being said, once you have heard the difference, you won't be able to go back.

Ah thanks for that, might give it a go eventually as they are quite expensive. They seem good as is so will keep to my plan of a new monitor first and then get to that afterwards.

Can't beat those sweet 40% off eBucks deals :P

For what it's worth I'll second Glordits suggestion for the Sennheiser PC360's (or their newer replacement model) - in case anyone else is looking for headphones.

It's less a gaming headset and more a heavenly object that makes sweet sweet love to your head.

Why do people want "gaming" headphones? I'm perfectly happy with the sound my Audio Technicas are producing for gaming... In fact, I've found them superior to the 3 "gaming" headsets I've tried out before.

I played with my wife's Sennheiser headphones last night and her headphones blew my gaming headsets out of the water when it comes to listening to music. When I tried it in gaming I immediately noticed the difference. I can now confirm that 7.1 makes a huge difference when playing a first person game. Then there's also the attached microphone.

Plus did you look at the prices of those Audio Techincas? I see they make gaming headsets too. Do the sound get worse when you add the word gaming to it when it's still the same make? Or will their gaming headsets also be worse for gaming than their normal headsets? :)

I don't have that problem, luckily. I've only ever once used a mic in-game, and I was playing on a laptop at the time with a built-in mic. Regarding the emulated surround sound (which 99% of 5.1 / 7.1 headsets are), you can buy one of those external 7.1 sound cards (or even the awesome little Roccat Juke) and have awesome surround sound using any stereo headset you choose to use. I haven't used one personally, but consensus is that they sound better than what the headphone emulation is capable of. To try out the virtual surround using software emulation, give Razer Surround a whirl and see how well it works with your wife's Sennies. I tried it out years ago and was quite surprised by the quality of the emulation.

I bought my ATH-M30x for R600 (shipping included) off Amazon on Cyber Monday a few years ago. The sound doesn't get worse when it's a gaming headset, but the price does inflate. For the same price you're paying for a "gaming headset", you can always buy a better sounding "traditional" stereo headset.
