Why does amazon keep releasing devices with shiit displays???

The Nexus 7 had a 1920×1200 display 4 years ago....

Was actually excited when I saw this post because I had assumed that well obviously they would have used 1080 displays this time round...at least on the bigger "HD" model. But noooooo...

I guess it works better with ebooks (kindle) and lighter on battery

nah, don't really see why this would be a significant factor either way.

All sorts of devices have had actual HD screens for ages, without serious batter repercussions. Also don't see how a low resolution would be an advantage for ebooks?
