What flavor of Windows 7 did you buy?

I just took the plunge and bought Windows 7 Ultimate (retail) from Take 2. It seems copies at the local shops are rediculously over-priced, so I suggest if you're still going to buy a copy of the new OS, make use of online purchasing instead.

What is the difference between DSP and retail versions?

It also seems Take2 are a bit overpriced with their windows 7:

DSP tied to your current hardware setup. Only a few upgrades allowed then you need to BS your way past an ms telephone operator to get it reactivated. Retail tied to the user and it can be reactivated as many times as you want as long as its only activate on one pc at a time.

Oh ok, that is really good to know. Would have been a screwup if I got that DSP from nivo. :p Thanks dude.

The best advice I can give is to get the retail edition of whatever version you choose. And for those that don't know, the retail editions of Windows 7 come with 32-bit and 64-bit flavors in the same package. To be very honest, Home Premium seems to be the best value for money. I chose Ultimate for that off-hand chance that M$ offers something to ultimate customers one day in the future.

x64 = no performance increase, just more stable and able to address more the 3.4Gb of RAM. x64 is they way you should be going irrespective... we need to get x64 the standard out there, no matter what the OS is....

Yeah the 64bit is most stable in terms of COD4 for example because punkbuster had issues with 32bit during the RC but the 64bit was fine. Also the ram issue like Slipperyduck mentioned. I run 4GB of ram so 64bit is the best option for me and for you too if you run 4GB or more.

And 32bit app compatibility? No issue there?

Personally, I'm looking for Home Premium - dont see the price/product of ultimate
