E3 By the Numbers

DieGrootHammer

Daddy TK
Welcome to another thread where I, DieGrootHammer, presents an aspect of the gaming world through the lens of statistics and data. I know right, I am indeed a super boring individual, but hey, to each their own.

In this episode, we look at E3, specifically the 6 major conference shows presented by the biggest players in the gaming world. We will take a look at the number of games presented by each of EA, Microsoft, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo. We take a look at the number of games presented and showcased by each, and we look at the release windows they are presented. It does make for some fascinating reading I promise.

Firstly, the stats:

As you can see, this year Microsoft came out swinging for the fences. Not only did they unveil their newest and strongest console, they also showcased the most games during their E3 presentation. A whopping 22 games were shown in more detail, and not's even counting the ID@Xbox montage of games shown. EA, Bethesda and Nintendo showed the least amount of games during their respective E3 presentations, with 7 games showcased each.

We also look at the release windows of all the games shown. As you can see, both Microsoft and Sony have a large amount of games shown that doesn't have a release date. On top of that, only about 30% of all games shown during Sony's conference are 2017 games, all the others are games we'll get either next year or later. EA here had the best showing, with only one game shown that aren't scheduled for a 2017 launch. Nintendo showed the lowest amount of games to be released this year, rather expected.

Overall, I feel very unimpressed with this year's E3 showing. Microsoft focused way too much on quantity and forgot to show any quality games, Sony is showing all the games we'll not be playing this year, and EA is pretty much just sports and Star Wars. From all the shows, I think Ubisoft did the best this year.

So, what you think of all these numbers and stuff?

Strangely enough it's the first year that I actually followed E3 a bit. Some of the games look really good.

I'm super excited about the XBox One X. They should have just stuck with the name Scorpio however. And they still need those killer games. The Sony exclusives keep on looking better than the Microsoft ones. Plus many of the Microsoft ones are timed exclusives and the others can be played on both pc and XBox so it doesn't really force people to go buy an XBox. If you own a pc and want to get a console then it makes more sense to get a PS4 at this point in time. That way you can play everything.

But gamers want backward compatibility so they can play XB360 games from years back.

Well if you're happy playing old crap then by all means. Not sure what you mean by the same game over and over though.

this is going to turn bad (you have always been an ultra ps fanboy, search feature on the site will prove that) so this is my last response and hopefully you will see the light *doubtful*

Here's an example

Sony gamer (you) - we dont care about backward compatibility we want to play new games etc etc

Sony - Sony would like to announce that shadow of colossus will be remastered again coming (whenever it is done)

Sony Gamer (you) - yeah im buying that on the day of release without a doubt. best game ever.

Microsoft - we announce that your xbox can now play 360 and original xbox games.

Sony Gamer (you) - MS dont have new games so they announce BC, No one cares about Backward compatibility or playing old games sony is a forward looking company they only care about new games etc etc.

Im pretty sure all that ps remasters that you pay for over and over again is also old crap !

Its only going to turn out bad because YOU made it so. Your assumption at fanboyism is based on your research on this forum so naturally you're offended at the comment I made earlier which puts you in much the same position then.

As far as I know theres only one Remastered version of any specific game with updated graphics, sometimes a tad bit more content and trophy achievement added.
